    I needed new light bulbs for some of our outside lights so looked around the DIY stores whilst out shopping. I wanted long life 11w (60w) ES (screw) bulbs and this is what I found.

    B&Q - £5.99 each :mad:

    Homebase - £4.99 each :(

    Wickes 18w (100w) - Special Offer - 99p for 3. 33p each :thmb: :D :okies:

    Wickes - :rocksn: :wuvu:

    B&Q and Homebase - Ripoff :confsd::mad: :mad:

    Shiney,I will have to look at the price of what we paid for our bulbs last week but because we live out in the sticks and the nearest Wickes is about 10 miles for a round trip we probably wouldn't be saving that much once we took the cost of the petrol to get there and back as Wickes is not in the main shopping area and we very rarely go there anyway,but i can see where you are coming from:thumb:

    Morrisons stock Philips lamps, usually 39p each but one batch were 5 for 50p.

    It seems that Philips are doing their bit for the environment.

    Some lamp housings are not big enough to take the small lamps, but the smallest I have seen are the EverReady mini spiral lamps, they will fit in Coughtree bulkhead fittings and the small coach type fittings.

    They've reduced the size of a lot of the energy saving lamps now so it isn't as much of a problem as it used to be.

    Kandy, Wickes is about 6 miles from us but I go in there when I am passing that way. As you say, it isn't particularly economical to make a special journey. :)

    From what I have heard (and it could be a load of rubbish) B&Q are now owned by Screwfix :cnfs:

    Just googled, and yes they are owned by the same holding company http://www.ciao.co.uk/Screwfix__6739337

    Are Screwfix a good company? I only ask cos once again B&Q failed! 3 times I went there for paint that was supposed to be being delivered the night before only to find it hadn't turned up. Eventually left my number with them so they could ring me when it was in, 3 days later no news so I phoned them - guess what, it was in!

    Wouldn't mind but you never get an explanation or apology. They seem to be going downhill but maybe it's just bad luck on my part.

    cheers
