Winter flowering houseplants - best to grow from seed ?

I'm currently pondering whether I could grow some winter flowering houseplants from seed, preferably some that I can sow in the next few weeks for flowering this coming winter.

Any ideas please?

Off the top of my head the only one I can think of is Cineraria, the brightly coloured daisy.

Does it have to be from seed ?

Have you thought about Winter flowering Fuchsias? I wouldn't be without my Fuchsia Space Shuttle it flowers from November through to April.

 

No, it doesn't have to be from seed, but I do like growing plants from seed.

In the past I have grown Streptocarpus Smithiantha, Cyclamen and Lithops from seed. I bet you could grow Christmas cactus from seed too.

I think it's unrrealistic to sow now and have flowering plants this winter. Next one - yes. I did grow cyclamen from seeds, interesting if you get interesting varieties seeds. Mine all came pink, not true.

 

No problem there, I know that Cyclamen take at least nine months to flower. I just like the pleasure of growing something which I can enjoy.
