At least you tried - I've never tried golf but if I did I suppose I'd hold the club the wrong way round :heehee:

Yesterday afternoon I went to a garden centre not far away, and the route took me along the side of a mountain. I could see a grass fire in the distance, and by the time I was coming home it had spread right down to the road. It was quite near some cottages and the flames looked high and fierce, and visibility driving along the road was poor. There were two fire engines there, and a van.

There were more houses the other side of the road from the fire and I wouldn't have liked living in one of them, the whole place stank of burning grass and smoke [IMG]
There are always grass fires on these hills in the spring but this is early for them, and there have been others - the winter's been quite dry and cold here (very unusual) so the grass is already tinder dry and ready to burn.

After nightfall I could see the fire burning on the hillside in the distance, there was a long line of it that must have stretched for over a mile, and the mountain is about 8 or 9 miles away.

The pointy end goes up and the bulky one down.

Trust me, I'm nearly a professional after a work team building event where I was tasked to tackle a U- shaped course with various obstacles and promptly hit the ball against the wall.

The ball bounced off the wall and landed neatly on the other end of the U course over the narrow boundary, allowing me to skip 90% of the course and just elegantly put the ball into the hole.

OK, it took me ten or so tries to convince the ball of the correct destination some 30cm away, but the glory of my inventive (and totally intentional!) problem solving hit became part of folklore.

OH is a golfer. It takes an awful lot of time to chase a little ball round a load of holes - 25mins each way to get there and back, 30 mins on the range doing a warm up, striking a bucket of balls, min 4 hours to do 18 holes, the 19th hole for just a coffee or a couple of beers and sometimes a meal so anything from 15 mins to 3 or 4 hours. ANd then he comes home and watches it on TV!

In those 6 plus hours today I have read my book in bed till 9:30, made a large red salad for our lunches this week and then done some sewing - almost completed modifications to my stained glass patchwork project in a way that means I can show others how to bind and complete their own and then sown together 4 completed blocks to make a wall hanging. Had to stop to cook dinner so the border and binding have to wait for another day.

Yes, that seems correct to me. My T'other Half is having to do the household tasks now and I have told him he has failed Home Economics!. I have had to hire a Gardener and would like a Cleaner (but no one will come out here). He would have a nervous breakdown if he had to work full time too as I did whilst shopping, preparing fresh meals, cooking, cleaning, laundering, gardening, etc, etc, etc ........

Perhaps your husband should try caring for people in wheelchairs for a number of years @Victoria, and doing the shopping cleaning cooking etc etc as well (like I did) ... he wouldn't have time for a nervous breakdown.

Hats off to you Michael. Mine's suffering severe shock after 45 years of domestic bliss ( from his point of view :-)) now he's having to do it all. Not a happy bunny! I'm hoping that we'll be able to share the load a bit more evenly once I'm up and about again :-)

I'm with the man who said "golf is a good walk spoiled".
I have also heard it described as a "socially acceptable form of self pleasure" (not quite the words used) The long running Radio 4 show that was uttered on early one Saturday evening did not come back for another series.

Michael, I can only walk using a walker and a wheelchair for gardening and should I go out from the property. He would rather be on the computer (in hand or laptop) rather than do house or property mainenance. He doesn't "do" gardening, windows, dusting ....)

Noisette, mine had 50 years of bliss. These last seven have been very difficult for him ... and a nightmare for me since I had a knee replacement. two hip replacements plus it being removed for five months and multiple mini strokes causing a balance loss ... but I still do dish washing and what gardening i can manage. I do lots of crochet afghans etc for charities.

I also hope you recover soon.

                          What a useless pair !
I travelled to look after my dad every day in a village 8 miles away, for several years, and after he died my mam came to live here for 3 yrs in a wheelchair, while Beryl was also starting to have difficulties at the same time ... and then B herself was in a wheelchair for 5 yrs. I had to do everything for B, by the end she could hardly eat her own food without help.
Gardening and other hobbies had to take a back seat for many years, I just pottered, but I had to do that sometimes - it kept me sane (-ish)
I think you're both with the wrong persons. They need to grow up and act like responsible adults.

                          I hope you'll be better soon @noisette

Thanks Michael. To balance things a bit, in the interests of fairness, OH was brought up to do everything his Dad considered 'manly' like DIY, car maintenance, machine repairs, excellent carpentry and rebuilding old barns in France etcetc :-) He even enjoyed gardening in UK because it wasn't on such a large scale as it is here. The last few years he has been taking the mickey a bit but boy has karma come back to bite him on the b*m recently lol.

It was right at the time ... and it has lasted 57 years so far. I might have chosen a philandere like my father (five wives, a 15-year relationship and many shorter-term women) or an abusive person but I chose the one who stands by me so I tolerate his lackadaisica attitude.

                              You are a unique individual.
