    Morning all

I planted this Acer last year and it’s not looking too good. I’ve been watering regularly due to the lack of rain. It doesn’t get too much morning sun. Could it be the salty air/wind damage? Thank you.

It looks as if it might be cold wind/frost damage. Leave it alone for this year. If you know you have planted it where it catches salty air or the wind you could try moving it in a couple of years time. I did not think salt air damaged acers but I may be wrong on that. Frost will damage new leaves, also wind or strong sunshine.

Young Acers have very fine roots so they are easily damaged when planting even if you are careful. Remember they are naturally woodland edge plants so if they are in a very exposed post they can struggle a bit. A dilute seaweed TONIC foliar spray may help. When the roots get more established it may do better.
