I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions of the coverage of the Malvern Spring Show on Gardeners' World on Friday evening.

Personally thought it was poor compared to previous years.

Adam Frost and Sue Kent seemed to be chatting amongst themselves more than providing information to viewers. The presentation style will have been decided by the producers, and not Adam & Sue's fault. I actually switched off half way through. That's a first for me, particularly as I was interested to see as much info as possible because we are now priced out of attending.

After the first ten mins or so I was wishing it was a “normal” GW episode.

I don't watch much regarding gardening programs these days, for some reason I find it all boring The coverage of flower shows is usually the most boring.

The bits about the camassias and the 22 year old were interesting but I thought Sue's bit about having a nap was rather cringeworthy; her talents should be far better used, IMHO.

I mentioned this on the GW thread, but the use of VTs to show an exhibitior's back story can slowly drive me doolally. When the programme is only an hour long I want to see the Malvern Show. A couple of minutes if you must and then let's crack on.

I must admit to being slightly biased where Malvern is concerned, as it is comparatively local and I have had several lovely visits over the years, but I'd be interested to know what viewers in other parts of the country make of it.
Granted it's not the biggest of the shows but there must be enough to fill an hour without resorting to Sue climbing into bed with a Teddy bear. We all know what beds are for (no sniggering at the back).

Wait until Chelsea starts and the BBC go berserk .

Clearly I wasn't the only one disappointed. I've enjoyed coverage in previous years, even when I have been to the show.

I watched it Friday night and got annoyed with all the 'padding' too. A programme billed as being about the Malvern Flower show should be just that and I'm not really interested in the growers 'back story'. I suspect though that if the programme was all about the Show, people might watch that instead of actually visiting?

I then went to Malvern today and did enjoy it, although as the coach got there by 10 am, I'd had enough by lunchtime but had to wait till 4.30 pm to leave. I especially liked the show gardens this year which the programme didn't really do justice to. The sunshine was glorious and it was crowded, prices, especially for food and drink very expensive.

Would I go again, maybe, but doubtful. It's quite an expensive day out now.

This is only the second time we've missed the Malvern Spring Show in about 30 years. First was after a particularly poor experience where the Floral Marquee was half empty and many other stalls in the 'sheds' were also absent. No obvious reason for that failure, but we returned 2 years later. I doubt we will go again because of the prices. We go on Friday because it's quieter and there are still some unusual plants left to buy. £70 for the 2 of us is nuts.
