Marlorena how lovely to see you on here. Your advice really helped me on GW when first trying to grow roses in pots. I look forward to seeing photos of your beautiful garden

Hi Debs, lovely to see you again too, it's been a while.. delighted to hear your roses are doing well in pots, I remember when you first started with them.. do continue to ask for advice if you need any, not that I think you do now, as your 'Emily Bronte' is looking splendid..

        Beautiful flowers @Mrs Hillard.
I’ve got some roses in the ground, but most are in pots and seem to be doing ok so far. I’ll post pics later.
I tend to do the same with the aphids on my lupin @Debs64, as I’ve never seen any ladybirds near them, but interestingly, I did notice a couple of sparrows having a go at them yesterday morning, so I’m hoping they’re developing a taste for them. I will still continue to rub them off though.

I hope to be able to show off lots of lovely roses this year :). My climbers (Indigoletta and clarence house) are now in year 3 so looking good and I added 6 new ones to my small collection this year. I got Dannahue, eddy mitchel, black baccara, love song, olivera frayla and Gletsher from Rozenlottum .As it’s raining I can't go out for any pictures so have a pic of Dannahue/iceberg I added to this wee display for my wife the other day

I love your penstemon "Westminster Belle" @Mrs Hillard. I haven't seen that one before. The blue penstemons that I've had before always died in the winter.

My "Westminster Belle" penstemon was acquired after I'd seen a previous photo of yours @Mrs Hillard , it's a very striking plant and reliable too.:)

                @Emptyheadtime
That's a really nice display.. and with some interesting background objects. I expect your wife was very pleased. I've seen your 'Indigoletta' or clg Blue Moon I think it's also known.. very nice too, you've made some good choices..

..this is Cistus 'Thrive'.. flowers all summer, one of the best plants I think, for dryish gardens.
                  IMG_6605.JPG
I also love these Anemone 'Wild Swan's'..
                  IMG_6615.JPG
'The King's Rose'.. it does have some scent too.. I don't find it at all garish, but quite pretty and feminine. I'm quite taken by it..

I agree about "The King's Rose" @Mrs Hillard , it's really appealing, so glad I was able to buy one.

Back in the 1960's, a German named Reinhard Biehler moved to England and started what we know today as Baytree Nurseries, they are generally found in East Anglia I think, maybe one near you. He bred roses, and named a couple after his daughters..

.this is 'Elke Biehler', and I think it's rather lovely, on a well foliated plant, graceful in habit and profuse in flowering..
                      IMG_6645.JPG
..this is 'Pirouette'.. a modern climber with stunning blooms, peppery scented..
                      IMG_6635.JPG
..this is 'Sally Holmes'.. very large waxy white flowers all summer, makes a large shrub..
                      IMG_6634.JPG
Clematis 'Westerplatte'.. very easy to grow..
                      IMG_6646.JPG
..underplanting.. Parahebe 'Avalanche'.. hardy to -8C..and flowers all summer, evergreen, I have this along my rose enclosure..
                      IMG_6607.JPG
..Astrantias just starting to flower.. this is 'Warren Hills'..

@Debs64 thank you for starting this thread, I am sure we will enjoy it, not sure if I am permitted to ask a Lavender question on here, apologies if not.
@Mrs Hillard, it never ceases to amaze me how your garden always looks so healthy and pest free. I have learnt a lot from you in the past and always enjoy your pics.
I know you have a feeding routine for your roses but do you feed the other plants?
I love your 'Victory' Lavender, may I ask how you keep it looking so lush? I am always nervous about overwatering etc.

Thank you, that's kind of you to say..

Yes I feed all my plants the same food in Spring... but not Lavender, you never feed those. They thrive on neglect. I did water it once this Spring but then it's left alone. They only last 2-3 years then replace. They're quite cheap to buy usually. 'Anouk' is another good variety I have of this type. 'Helmsdale' is similar, they're all good and I can hardly tell the difference, but they do not last forever.

The thread was started by @katecat58 but I am sure questions about any plant would be fine. I think the idea was a chatty thread with possibly some photos about plants in general mainly focused on roses. I must admit over on GW threads rarely stayed on topic which I suppose could be annoying but I enjoyed.

I started this thread in the hope that it would be really chatty, so really anything goes.

I'm reading this and looking sorrowfully out of the front window at my beautiful old rose 'Isaphan', a Damask rose dating back to the 13thC from Iran.

It was looking beautiful and covered with many small, pink, fragrant blooms all over the rose arch and up into the nearby Magnolia.

Today, after heavy rain, a lot of the petals are on the lawn and it's looking rather bedraggled.

It only flowers once as well!
