The pot of spuds I lost last year just went yellow and withered away.
I put it down to early blight.

I think it's different to late blight which is more common perhaps.

Yesterday I furtled my International potatoes, aka Jersey Royals :itchy:
Lifted a couple out and microwaved them lightly -- Delicious !!
Likewise first early "Foremost" very good, but not quite as tasty as JRs

I wonder does feeding them with Liquid Seaweed help the flavour ?

@JWK, yes probably too soon, but a furtle in one of the other pots suggests some are a decent size. It's just the plants in this one weren't doing well.

I have never fed tatties before, just manure before planting, I might just try the liquid feed with the Winston and Buster, tatties and tommies are are after all in the same family.

Hmmm! Planted in potato buckets Charlottes on 20 March, planted with potato fertiliser and blood fish and bone, watered well until the rain came. Since then the leaves are all turning yellow and dying but they haven’t flowered yet. Had a little feel at the base of one that is totally yellow but couldn’t feel much as the compost seemed very dry and hard, although I can see the compost at the bottom (through the drainage holes) is dark and damp. Should I just give them a good soaking or call it a day and never try spuds again!! Hahaha!!

Doubt that the tubs catch much rain, theres not been much falling (here). Soak and allow to drain ; continue. How many tubers planted per bucket/size ?

@Tinkerbelle61 you must water plants in pots, tubs, hanging baskets, window troughs, any container.

They are totally dependent on you for food and water as, being above ground and spearated from the soil, they have no access to ground water and their foliage stops rain getting into the compost/planting medium.

Similarly, commercial composts only have enough feed for 80 to 90 days so you need to add a liquid feed once a week after the first month or so if you want healthy plants producing attractive foliage, flower, fruits or potatoes and any other crop.

There are four in each bucket, two opposite each other planted a third up from the bottom, then two more the same (at the other “corners”) two thirds up the bucket then filled to the top with compost. I’ll do as instructed re soaking now. Thanks for your help.

I added Growmore when planting and don't feed after that. Tomato fertiliser isn't ideal for potatoes as it's to encourage fruit. You want something with about equal volumes of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, a so called balanced feed. A liquid seaweed foliar feed would act the quickest.

I've done the same as previous years, left it late to furtle. Should have started pulling them up 2 weeks ago

                          Size nine for comparison:

Not disturbed the planted crop yet- but did 'round up' some volunteers-they have been in longest....

Ahh okay, I have seaweed feed, I’ll use that. Although while I was drowning them, this appeared!! Maybe all is not lost.
