I bought some Tumbling Tom tomato plants from Brookside Plants which have arrived and really good strong ones. The only thing I'm not sure about is the biodegradable pots they've been grown in and whether to leave on, or remove them. I'm going to be growing them in hanging baskets and I don't know whether they'd grow just as well with the pots still on. The roots are growing through but I'm wary of causing any damage to them.

I would try and remove the pots they never worked for me. Try soaking the pots or using scissors carefully.

....or at least remove as much of the bio pot as you can without disturbing the roots too much.

If not used in hangling baskets, we put our TT in a big tall tub as they can tumble down quiet a lot and if touching the ground the slugs will soon start eating them before you :)

Using large tubs you get many times more toms than in a hanging basket.

They always say remove any part of the pot that might end up above soil level, if you dont it ends up wicking the water away from the part under the ground and causing a dry impenetrable barrier for the roots to get through.

Thanks for the advice. As recommended, I gave the pots a good soaking and then carefully peeled them off. Three days on, I have very happy tomato plants that are just starting to flower
