    Evening all,

I’ve recently got my lawn to a place which I’m happy with thanks to the Gardeners Corner members, however I’m now facing a different problem.

I seem to have these thick weed like clusters all over my lawn. Some are green and kind of look like grass and others are really short, tough and white.

Could anyone help identify what this is please? I’ve been pulling them out where I can but there’s way too much to tackle.
I’ve attached some images for reference.

    Thanks in advance,
    James

Yes one of the coarse grasses, I thought maybe Yorkshire fog, but there are lots of possibilities , hard to identify unless you let them grow and produce flower heads, and it doesn't really matter which one(s) it is.

    Your options are
    1. Live with it
    2. Dig out the clumps manually, fill the spaces with soil and re-seed
    3. Slash them criss-cross fashion with a knife or edging iron and rake up the long stolons to lift them up before you mow, every time - that's supposed to weaken them and help your lawn grass to out-compete them.

I can't be bothered with option 2 and find the effectiveness of option 3 dubious (maybe I'm not persistent enough with it) so I tend to go with option 1 mostly.

Thank you both for your help, here’s my thinking I’d discovered some sort of super weed!

I’ll learn to live with it, Thanks again.

I get that on my front lawn. I call it my string grass and it usually appears after a drought. So I get down on my hands and knees and cut it short with scissors. It's not the whole lawn, just small patches.
