          Thanks @Mrs Hillard

I particularly like your 'Pirouette', it looks very healthy and floriferous!

Continuing warm and dry in East Anglia, missed all the rain recently.. I have yet to see any blackspot this year, foliage is remarkably clean on all roses here..

'Pirouette' still flowering well, needs deadheading..

'Forever Royal'.. a floribunda that looks best in July.. start of 2nd flush..
            IMG_7800.JPG
'The King's Rose'.. sweetly scented, rather lovely which is a surprise. Love this rose next to a path here..

Daylilies are opening today.. I only grow what is known as they 'spider' form.. I think they fit into a rose garden better..

..this hybrid tea 'Charisma' just opening today.. it has a good scent and recently won the AGM.

'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. a spray.. a wide spreading rambler if left alone..

Daylilies polarise opinions, often have weird names and can look a bit odd.
Penstemons tend to be more universally popular I think.
              'Apple Blossom'..

Cosmos 'Xsenia' seeded from last year, appears to have come true..

I mainly have floribunda roses which are very successful but a few of my hybrid teas, although they bud up huge, they never seem to open up very well. Any ideas? tia

Does anyone here grow a rose with flowers that last more than a few days on the plant? So far I’m impressed with Roald Dahl which has lost only one flower out of about six since it arrived twelve days ago.

Yes I have several of those, and any number in the past,.. it's best to choose roses with thicker, waxy petals.

Which roses with long lasting flowers do you grow now @Mrs Hillard? (I’m starting a bareroot list for the autumn .)

@Plantminded the blooms of my Penelope Lively last for a good amount of time. The changes in colour are also really nice. Young blooms are a raspberry pink and as they mature the colour softens and acquires a (slight) lilac tint (still pink, I am not suggesting that the colour totally changes). The foliage is dark, which creates nice contrast. It is a very healthy rose with a strong fragrance. Tends to grow a bit wider than it does tall.

                        Penelope Lively®

Jumping to a few more rose photos I took today. This is Lady of the Lake.

And this is my absolute favourite rose, The Pilgrim. As I have mentioned before, I can never capture its full beauty in photographs. Even more so now, that it hasn't yet reached its peak. I really love this rose though, I find it magical. The colour is a beautiful yellow that gradually gets whiter towards the outer petals, making it look as if it's glowing.

Thank you @CostasK, your descriptions and photos are very helpful. I can see why you like those roses. You are right about the difficulty of capturing the allure in a photo, the luminous quality needs to be seen in situ.

This is the flower bud of Admiral, a Hybrid Tea rose that I bought in a sale at Crocus. No, I haven’t set fire to the plant , the bud is almost black, like a black tulip, with hints of the deep red to follow. We’ll see :noidea:.

                            Now.
