I have recently bought a lovely hydrangea from my local Asda. The label (photo attached) identifies it as being one of the hydrangea macrophylla and it is clearly a lace top/flathead from the blooms (photos also attached) but I am struggling to identify the exact cultivar and, importantly, the height and spread.

    Can anyone help please?

Hi @Tomsmum . That looks like a nice healthy specimen- which is good.
However, there are hundreds of varieties of hydrangea, and even with the colour showing, there's likely to be many varieties that are similar, so I think you'll strugle to find out the exact variety.
As long as it's happy, and you follow the correct pruning advice, it should be fine.
As far as size is concerned, info is always a bit vague because your conditions and climate will dictate the eventual height and spread of any woody shrub or tree. Many can easily reach a couple of metres in each direction, and some never get to more than about 3 feet. The good news is that they can be pruned back if they eventually get too big.

Hi Fairygirl. I used to be on the Gardeners World forum that closed. Your name looks familiar. Were you on there too?

Yes, I am really pleased with the specimen which was £10 from Asda. I am on clay, so hydrangeas do well in my garden, and I have a few cultivars.

The front of the label says eventual height is 1.2m and spread 60cm, which is confusing, so who knows what will happen when it grows.
