Last time a GP asked me how much I was drinking per day, I assumed he meant water and said about 2 litres. He looked a bit surprised and said "Cider?" It was only then I realised he meant alcohol.

In my entire life I have probably consumed less than two litres of alcohol. I don't like the taste and get no positive buzz from it at all.

Now, you really could not make this up. An internet-safe smart phone is being marketed to protect children. It blocks browsers and social media etc. It costs ... £99 ... a month! :hate-shocked:

Surely as the bits that make it "smart" are blocked, it is actually just "a phone". Cost to buy outright - under £50. Sim for calls - £6 a month or, even cheaper, PAYG. :dunno:

Our gp gets money for patients with diabetes. The problem is they seem to base it on weight and not a lot else. My mum can go from pre diabetic to diabetic, just by gaining a pound or two, lose the weight and she's not diabetic anymore. When they claimed she had it, she was bombarded with appointments but if you have a genuine illness you can't get anywhere near a doctor.

They get payments for lots of different things and would be better if they got paid for each patient they see rather than how many are on the books
I've been diabetic for about 15 years but my HBA1C is always between 54 and 57 and they can’t understand why it is always the same and I've no symptoms

France has introduced taxes on all private jet flights since March and the aount depends on distance and number of passengers. That should garner some taxes from the rich flying about for fashion shows, boat shows and film festivals plus the skiers and beachers.

France has also invented wind turbines that have no wings so take up less space, look less intrusive and don't kill wildlife or make nearby residents sick. Looking forward to seeing those go up.

I can access my health records online and like to go for an MOT every couple of years - BP, blood test and listening to lung and heart functions. I am generally fit and well but have had quite a few ops for mechanical problems so my new GP pronounced me "very interesting" whilst OH who only needs regular pills to prevent gout is a bit boring. The hospitals here also have access to these records but still ask me every time about date of birth, height, weight, drinking, exercise, smoking, allergies............

For my 2nd knee they decided, to be safe, that I had to see the cardio to confirm I was unlikely to die under epidural anaesthetic and he made me have a blood test to confirm blood type - despite my having a Belgian card saying I was O neg, as tho people change blood groups mid life.

Those Vortex blades seem to have passed their tests with flying colours. They are using them from small domestic generators up to larger commercial ones.

Why don't spell checkers accept spilt as the past tense of the verb to spill or spelt instead of spelled they are equivalent in British English; there are many other examples where the spell checker tries to force the US spelling on us. For example specialise and specialize they are equivalent why cannot the spell checker accept either.

It was always spelt 'spilt' when we were at school and we were told that only Americans used spilled and the American version was not acceptable for our homework. Similarly spelt and spelled. Fortunately I don't use spell checkers but it is automatically the U.S. version on GC. I just change it back. :noidea:

I thought the spill chucker was part of your browser and not anything to do with GC.
My phone doesn't like me using the word chucker for some reason.

I once put cigarette in a post and it later changed to cigarette. Or maybe admin got involved!

Seems that F A G is automatically changed on posting. It's happened again.

They actually seem to be Spanish in origin see About us | Vortex Bladeless and 2018 paper therein by Yanez.
Possibly parallel evolution, or variations on a theme; Yanez does have a relatively early patent in the field.
