    Hello ,

Is anyone able to help me save my dying bamboo plant please? I bought it at a reduced price from a supermarket hoping that it would perk up after it had been watered / repotted but it doesn't look any better. I think it is golden bamboo plant. It still has a couple of green leaves on it.

    Thank you

Hi and Welcome to the Forum,

We would cut back to the base all those dried brown/dead looking shoots and give the new green ones room to grow out.

Keep well watered and give it a feed with a Balanced fertiliser, think it will soon recover.:)

Was there a plant name label on the pot ?

Some Bamboos are well behaved Clump forming others rather invasive thugs, so if the latter might be better to keep it in a large tub rather than in the garden soil.

No label ? then let it grow up a good a meter or so and then post another pic as someone might recognise the variety.

I don't have the label anymore but I think it said it was a golden bamboo plant.

You are unlikely to see any new canes now until late spring next year. By removing the brown canes you will improve the appearance and leaves may possibly appear on the remaining yellow canes. I feed mine with blood fish and bone which works well. Your bamboo looks like a variety of Phyllostachys which are classified as running bamboos but I have several in the ground in my sandy, shallow soil and they behave well. In moist, fertile soil a barrier may be needed to contain it if you plan to move it from the pot in future.
