@Obelix-Vendée Thanks for the information about who collates the info, but how do they decide who they are going to ask? Do they always use the same people, or people from the same list?

@john558 My brother-in-law uses CBD oil and swears by that, although he does say it tastes horrible. He's a builder with back problems and an artificial hip. He says he wouldn't be able to work without it.

I suppose it depends on which bit of your back is “bad”. My OH suffered from slipped disc type problems for years and went to various physiotherapists with no improvement. Then someone recommended a sports physiotherapist who, besides massage and manipulation, recommended gentle yoga type exercises. His bad back was cured and has stayed cured. He still does the yoga type stretching every day.

Yes I'm sure the issues discussed in this forum may pop up. Audience will wave their phones, shouting "Plant ID please", "When is honey bear squash ripe?" "Dying bamboo, can anyone help pls?"... :heehee:

@KT53 audience panels have been around for decades, carefully selected to reflect the population. Originally the Beeb had one and ITV another but these have now joined and are jointly funded by them and other broadcasters to get accurate data. The BARB website says:

"The Barb panel is a sample of carefully-recruited households, selected by geography, demographics and TV platforms, to mirror the entire UK.

It’s continuously vetted and managed too. Each week we interview 1000 households to see if the profile of the panel is current, and tweak our data weighting accordingly to ensure we accurately reflect the nation.

And with the media moving so quickly, we’re evolving too. We’re expanding the panel to 7,000 households, which is about 16,000 people, providing daily insight into who’s watching what, on which device, and for how long."

Assuming the panel members tell the truth, of course. ;)

I had a mate who loved test matches and he always had them on the wireless at work.

I used to joke with him as half the time the commentators didn't have anything to talk about, a red bus going by, the bowlers trousers flapping in the breeze, a dark sky approaching, etc.

Then we had something like Dilly caught Willy out at silly, and Dredge bowling from the river end.
it was a laugh a minute. On the wireless.

I had back problems for years, still do to some extent, finally I had an op for decompression, a bit worrying as they tell you you could end up paralysed, but I was working and walking around bent over all the time straightening up just made my legs tingle and around my bum area hurt.
Before the op I was on Naproxen most of the time which helped, it is good stuff.

I never found any of the snake oil treatments of any use what so ever, with the rub stuff its mostly the rub that helps rather than the stuff you're rubbing in.

if you have something wrong with your back you need a scan, and treatment, keep pushing for a diagnosis.

                      @pete "the bowler's Holding the batsman's Willey".
As well as Red buses there are planes, helicopters, cranes and a variety of wildlife to fill the gaps.

30+ years ago there was a craze among some runners for using WD40 for aching/stiff joints again it was the good rub that may have helped.

Where I walk is on paths cut through the undergrowth, they are well used but this time of the year the brambles tend to move in on you along with 4ft nettles.
There are a group of volunteers who do a day once a week cutting back these paths but they are using secateurs and loppers, not great for the job really, I suggested they got the council to get them some cordless hedge trimmers, but they said they would need to go on a health and safety course to even be able to touch something like that.

I was thinking of carrying my own garden sickle when walking and have the odd slash at anything that gets in the way, but I'd probably get arrested, so I use my ball launcher.

@ViewAhead - they have a little black box that records their viewing. It's ages since they had to fill out forms every time they turned on or changed channels or turned off.

@NigelJ going back 4 decades now but OH used to watch cricket on TV whilst listening to the commentary on radio 4 and completing project control forms for work. Thrilling Sundays for me!

You can find the "leg over" moment from Test Match Special on YouTube, @Ergates
                                - I believe it caused a bit of a hoo ha among the stuffy management at the Beeb at the time, and Brian Johnston & Jonathan Agnew, responsible for the hilarity, were afraid they might be in serious trouble. However, it increased the popularity of TMS and they were forgiven. There's something very infectious about a commentator (or two) "corpsing" on the radio.

And yes, people still bring them cake!

However, my moan is that the Beeb have stopped broadcasting test matches on R4 Long Wave, and we can't access R5 or whatever it's on now, in Ireland. I used to love listening to the cricket whilst gardening... we can see the highlights, provided they're on BBC2...
