TBF, I think it would be reasonable for visitors to hand over a deposit on entry, refundable if they leave on schedule. If anyone can enter and then "disappear", that allows irregular migration disguised as vacation traffic.
The US might as well just shut down and admit they don't want anyone visiting their country for any reason whatsoever. A good start would also be to ban any of their citizens from visiting any country outside the US. That at least would have saved us here from having to entertain Trump.
I will be boycotting the FIFA world cup in the US on the same grounds I boycotted the Qatar world cups; lack of human rights unless you are rich. Not only that the US event clashes with the cricket season and a busy time in the garden.
Most countries would prefer wealthier travellers. There's been a lot of negativity towards backpackers and sun-sea-sand-drink groups across the world. Trump is waxing lyrical at the moment ... but inaudibly due to the bagpipe accompaniment.
There have already been rumblings about moving the World Cup from the USA unless visa restrictions are changed. Some of the countries which have qualified for the finals are on the USA banned list.
