One of the utilities dug a trench across the end of our road at the junction with the main road. The repair job was terrible and the tarmac started to come out within a couple of weeks. I reported it and a part bodge was done, only repairing the deepest bits. Within a few more weeks it was as bad as ever and an equally bad bodge done. When it fell apart again I added that I felt there was a real risk of cyclists and motorcyclists being injured on that junction because of the loose surface. I'm sure is was entirely coincidental, but within a couple of days all the old tarmac was removed and a proper job done. It's still OK now, about 3 years later.

False economy, it's rife in this country these days, it's because nobody ever gets held responsible for anything anymore.

We had a stupid situation a while ago with a section of road where they'd done work changing part of it to a single lane [long story but I think it's due to people overtaking, and causing problems at an awkward, busy junction] and had therefore created a larger grassed area in the centre. For some reason, they thought it was ideal to paint new white lines everywhere - without re surfacing the lousy, potholed road.
Needless to say, a few weeks later - road was resurfaced - and the lines all had to be redone...

Just read in my electronic news paper the Chancellor is going to try and allow cash strapped councils to sell off Allotments (and council school playing fields). How low can she get.

They were going to close all the hotels down as well.
When Starmer was asked the other day what they would do with all the people in them he actually said, well there's lots of houses for them.
I thought we had a housing shortage.

They are doing exactly what the tories did, just throw money at the problem and hope it goes away.

Absolutely right. What got me was on their first attempt they just patched in the worst areas of loss. That then stood proud of everything around it. Surely they must have known what the result would be.

……whilst “ finding” a 100 million pounds to deal with immigration / border control. Wonder why she couldn’t “ find” this money to retain the WFP for OAP’S?

Govs never learn that a few extra pounds in their coffers today causes expensive problems down the line when the effects have to be dealt with. Taking away playing fields at a time of a childhood obesity crisis does seem particularly perverse though.

Most school playing fields were built on in the 80 and 90s around here, there arn't any to sell off now.

I've just bought a small pruning saw from Tool station, I then get an email saying they have verified my age. Over 18?
              How exactly?

If you paid by card then you are over 18, also check the address on the electoral roll, you can vote so over 18. If you buy in person they just eyeball you.

I thought this govt. were "into" sport so persuading councils to sell off school playing fields sounds somewhat perverse.
As for the age verification issue, no way could a supplier tell that a person is 18 or over just by looking at them. A friend recently sent a pic of her GS getting ready to attend a school event. He is just 16 but could easily pass for 20. There has also been talk recently about lowering the voting age to 16 so that could well make verification via electoral roll for bladed weapon purchase more difficult.
