Any idea what this is? My plant ID says Photinia Red Robin but I don't think it is the leaves are smaller it's in my friends garden she just calls it prunice??
Just be interested to know its proper name it's about 6ft high & wide. It makes a nice screen and I'm wondering if I could try taking cuttings and if it would grow in shade?

No, not Photinia. I'd say that's Viburnum tinus, does it produce small white flowers in late winter? held upright in a cluster?

Yes it will grow in some shade, and yes you can take cuttings too, although they're not expensive to buy should you want to speed things up.

Do you have a picture of the whole bush and are then any spikes on it?

I agree with Perki and Pete, it's an ornamental quince.

Yes that looks like quince to me. It flowers in the spring - quite small flowers, usually red but you can get them in other colours too. Then it might produce fruit which can be beautifully scented.

Sorry Escarpment, you posted while I was adding my pics.

It is Chaenomeles sp...common name Japanese quince.
It flowers in spring ...I would expect to see a few fruits on such a large shrub.
Flowers can be white, pink, red etc.
            Pics below

It is not Photinia Red Robin or Viburnum tinus.
            V. tinus has opposite leaves. CHAENOMELES SUPERBA JET TRAIL 31-05-2018 12-28-26.JPG CHAENOMELES XXX 07-07-2021 14-53-15.JPG CHAENOMELES XXX 07-07-2021 14-53-27.JPG CHAENOMELES XXX 07-07-2021 14-53-47.JPG CHAENOMELES XXX 12-10-2021 16-25-31.JPG

Mine set a few fruit this year but I think they've dropped off, maybe because it's so dry.
