Yet another cloudy start to the day but I'm not complaining really. Just wish the clouds would burst :roflol: Top temp later might be 21c.

Sunny intervals today apparently then two days of sunny and warm before the drizzle sets in for the foreseeable.

Sunny here and heading to 30C later on with a light breeze. Friday's rain will now only give 3cm of rain so 2 days later and 2cm less than forecast just a day or so ago.

More watering then as some plants are suffering.

Another cool day begins with a cloudy 14 degrees, seems to have slowed down the tomato ripening, which is a bonus lol, disappearing under a mountain here.

3cm is still a fair amount, if the ground is bone dry a lot runs off rather than soaking in so a large amount in one go might not be a good idea.

The 5cms were spread over 36 hours @pete. The 3cms are now spread over 24. Anything is better than nothing, given how hot and dry it's been but a couple of days of steady rain are what's needed to start repairing damage. Loads of trees already have lost muost of their leaves, even old, well established ones in the hedgerows and they're not fading gently thru autumn colours, just going directly to crispy.

I think people worry when these trees losing leaves early, but I always just see it as a way they survive.
They will come back next year because they shed the leaves early, the weather means they have done their growing for this year early and don't really need to go through the autumnal phase.

Probably if that happened every year it would wear a few species down long term, but usually it doesn't, so they survive.

I'd agree, on the whole, @pete but these droughts combined with extreme heat are becoming more common and I think that may be too much cumulative stress for some trees. We had an unusually wet winter here but then a long, dry spring and summer. Let's hope the autumn and winter rains top up the water table again.
