I agree about trigger warnings for Fools and Horses........... never lean on a pub bar when it isn't there As for the rest of it ?? Reports about countries involved in war may contain scenes of death and devastation. A programme produced decades ago contains language and attitudes of the time Who'd have guessed ?? Interviews of recently bereaved people may be upsetting as may interviews with people who have been victims of rape, domestic abuse or other forms of violence. Unless it is made illegal to report on anything which may be upsetting, if it is newsworthy it will appear somewhere and will be hard to avoid in this day and age. Images of torture and abuse of both people and animals seems to be freely available on the inet and is allowed to continue despite the platforms responsible saying they are dealing with it. As far as Trump is concerned, I don't think anyone in their right mind really expects anything sensible to emerge from his mouth given his performance as former and present President. Looking at @Obelix-Vendée 's post, his acolytes and followers are of the same mindset.
That's the problem @Philippa. He still has followers - the rich who are taking advantage to fill their own coffers and the ordinary folk, usually in states renowned for poverty and poor educationl attainment, who have not the critical faculties to understand he's all mouth and no trousers, a lying, cheating, misogynist, racist, bigot, bully and felon with 91 criminal charges, 34 convictions, 2 impeachments, 26 sexual assault accusations and he has pardoned all the people who raided the Capitol in Jan 2020, injuring policmen and damaging buildings. He's even appointed some to positions of power and he's pardoned other emn convicted for sexual assault or financial crimes.
More on the CDC sacking from a US citizen. The comments should be read with care as some may consider them extreme. https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/rfk-jr-must-go-and-he-s-not-only-one
Pre order I understand, it's when, for example, you order the latest cosy murder book from Amazon when it's announced rather than when it's available thereby helping them out with their cash flow and reducing overstocking. Good book that; I must reread it.
@Obelix-Vendée, had you been a US citizen at the time of the 2024 election, doubtless you would not have voted for Trump. However, that does not mean you can write off the people who did. There was a choice between two candidates, both very flawed and representing parties with track records not up to much (though for different reasons). You can only vote for someone on the ballot paper. That is how the powerful ensure they stay in power. It is the system at fault, not the educational attainment of voters.
I enjoyed Star Trek when a youngster as it was fun seeing how the crew would bail Captain Kirk out of this episodes mess. As for shaky sets Dr Who was pretty bad back then, but the prize should go to Blake's 7.
They have the system the yhave because they haven't the wit to make one where this kind of idiocy and this kind of criminal fascist cannot prevail @ViewAhead. There is also the classic protest option of spoiling your ballot because you don't like either candidate. The republican oligarchs are milking this situation to line their pockets and the democratic oligarchs, tho lesser in guilt, have not woken up to the need to improve education, housing and health care for all at a sufficient rate to prevent the kinds of actions we are seeing today in the US. There is enough reporting on farmers losing their livelihoods and homes because of Trump's tariffs and complaining they didn't know that was what he would do when they voted for him - lack of economic, social and political info in their upbringing and local communities. There are plenty of others now portesting loudly at political meetings all over the red states with Grand Old Party republicans being booed off. I don't have to live in the USA to be informed about some of the horrors he and his followers are perpetrating and yes, I have visited it and met some real characters - none of whom I'd want living anywhere near me.
Should someone driving a disability scooter be talking on a mobile phone at the same time ? I don't think they should, but I saw a woman doing that while driving along a pavement with lots of people, and winding in between them ... very dangerous. I didn't think a disability scooter should be on the pavement anyway, that is for pedestrians. I don't know what the law is about it, or even if there is one ... but there should be.
I saw someone doing that just this morning. I'm pretty sure half of the people I see on these things don't actually need them. A couple of years ago now when going to the chemist I was walking towards the door, a youngish woman on a mobility scooter raced me to the door, screeched to a halt, dumped the scooter, in the doorway, jumped off and beat me to the queue. They are becoming the next big problem for pedestrians.
Maybe she'd stolen it, or 'borrowed' it from someone, like they do with the blue disability parking badges for cars.
No, I just think its easier than walking, they just use them to get around. I've even seen them with a kid onboard. Slightly different but a motorbike went tearing down the road a few days ago with a teenager on it with a little kid sitting in front, no helmets or number plates. They never get caught.
The no-hands cyclists worry me. I often encounter one on my walk to work - it's a shared footpath/cycle path and he comes down the hill, no hands, and earphones in. And I saw a woman once coming down a hill on a bike, she had two small children in bike seats, one in front and one behind. That's confidence for you!
