Picked these two tromboncinos today, both roughly the same length and same time on the vine. I have two plants, and one of them produces the skinny fruits and the other one the fat fruits!

I pulled up the Defender courgettes in my raised bed yesterday as they don't look likely to produce anything else worthwhile this year, and I thought I might sow some hardy annual flowers for next year in that space. I still have one plant in a pot.

The yellow Shooting Star are still producing, but they haven't been very prolific and the fruit is rather small, so I might not bother with them again.

The thin Tromboncinos are producing lots of fruit; the fat one only has one on it. I suspect it would produce more if I cut that one, but I'm minded to leave it and see if I can get a ripe one.

Selected the 40 biggest garlic bulbs to plant out at the end of the month. Should get 6 fat cloves from each to plant. I also have 5 bulbs of another variety to plant in the greenhouse.

Also what remains of the 2024 harvest.

Picked the uchi kuri. Still got autumn crown and Queensland blue to pick. The autumn crown look tiny at the moment, Queensland blues should reach a fair size

This year I had a Aubergine plant bought from Dobbies, it was a pink and white stripey one ,to look at similar to a tigrella tomato.
It produced 6 fruits but never seemed to ripen .I left the plant in the greenhouse
Now sòme of the fruits have changed to a beautiful yellow still a white one and the original pinky purple first fruit ,

Has anyone else had this experience ? . They are still rock hard .

dried the heads of some of the amaranth out and threshed and winnowed it. takes ages, all for very little, but fun whilst watching tv

making popcorn from it is nice but they are so small they burn quickly. seems you need just the right temperature, when leidenfrost effect occurs, and to do it in small batches at a time.

What do you do with squash this size? (Pickle the Jack Russell for comparison).
                I haven't got a separate freezer for them:biggrin:
And I refuse to spend a month living off roast squash. IMG_20250911_082011307.jpg
Btw, at Aberglasney on Saturday I saw they had tromboncino growing on their crab apple tunnel - it allowed the enormous fruit to just hang ready to clobber the unwary.

                      Aaaawww! Bless him.
My neighbour has just been in to retrieve one of her elderly cats who decided my open door needed investigating. The cat is 19 and no longer quite all there with us and the world.

May be worth using the pumpkin in a Risotto ? I've only done it with Butternut squash but if you are stuck for ideas ???

Thank you all for delicious ideas! It's just that with only the two of us to feed, I'm not sure there's any way to get through it all before it goes off. I grew one of the Japanese types as well, and that is a much smaller size. But it only produced one!
