I made a bucket of apple sauce from a neighbours windfalls, and I made some crab apple jelly from an ornamental tree I found that had collapsed. The crab apple jelly is actually very good, we had some with our supper of chestnut stuffing and roast veggies. Not quite redcurrant jelly but pretty close. I think ill find some more crab apples.

Last weekend with the last of our green tomatoes made 4 jars of chutney using Apple cider vinegar bought locally and found in the Pantry a few good sized Parsnips yesterday so now we have two large portions of soup for the two of us, didn't take long to make.

Thank you that's very kind of you,i don't use grams, but hubby is trying to convince me to use them, my kitchen scales do both and liquid measures.

A cup is a volume though - a cup of flour, a cup of sugar and a cup of chopped apples would all have a different weight. It's a bad idea to mix and match between volume and weight - use one or the other. In general it doesn't really matter what size cup you use, because it's the proportions of the ingredients that matter. Just use the same cup for each ingredient.

I've been making roasted salsa all summer from tomatoes or tomatillos as the base.

I've got an excess of dessert apples that don't keep so need to do something with them, not an issue for the many kg of bramleys I also picked which keep well into next year.

That is the lowest amount I've ever seen for a cup measure. Ours are all 8 ounces (250 g). I'm glad you made that clear, it would have been disaster trying to mix double the main dry ingredient into it! Thank you for making that known. :blue thumb:

Why would it it be a disaster? All the ingredients are measured in cups, so the proportions would be the same no matter what size cup you use. The only potential issue I can see is that the 2 eggs might not be enough when using bigger cups, but you'd probably be able to tell on mixing it and add another.

So not fluid ounces then. Just for a little more confusion.

It's not just the volume of the eggs, it's also their leavening and texture that greatly affects the outcome. I've baked thosands of loaves of bread and the same for desserts and learned that lesson!
