We have free prescriptions here in Scotland @pete but even then I'd still rather take something natural than a pill full of chemicals where possible. I have an intolerance to most medicine anyway, so I usually refuse what is offered by doctors.

Mr S and I have a joint bank account @Jiffy and he knows exactly where I am when out shopping. How? Because we are online bankers and he can check how much I've spent and where within minutes of the transaction.

 

@pete they are little better than slaves and have no personal choice.

As for Blair and co, education education education only works if you start at nursery level and keep standards - teachers, curriculum, resources, buildings - at a decent level for all.

Finland has no private education which means that richer and ambitious parents all make sure that facilities are good in all schools and, despite shorter hours, 15 minutes break every hour and no nationwide exams, they have a high success rate.

 

But it depends on what you start with, not being funny but some people just are better at some things than others, its no good forcing something down someone's throat if it is of no interest to them how ever early you start.

People are individuals and what one 5yr old likes another may not, I dont believe in forcing education, above a certain level, into everyone, its what causes them to go wrong and off the rails.
Sure teach everyone to read and write, and what they need to get by in life, but dont force all the pointless stuff into people that are not interested.

Its a bit like telling me I have to learn to play a musical instrument.
I like music, but I cant play a note on anything and never will, I just am not capable of doing it or learning it.

Let people find what they are best at rather than saying they all have to get a degree in history or english, or media studies.

What is meant by a success rate?
You turn out lots of people that are good at exams?
Or you turn out people that get a job and are useful to society.

 

Our government has finally got woke. Woken up to the extreme value of skilled workers.

Lots of apprenticeship grants and enticements are being put into action.

I worked for 30+ years in "brain work" and then switched to a career in a trade. Less appreciated by others but so much more rewarding at the end of each day.

And still loads of brain work involved when calculating supplies and other challenging operational teasers,. But wow, a lot more fun

I don't know how true it is but someone told me they wanted this digital id system to be home made and not just using the blueprints or software already developed. This is what worries me most because it will easily end up costing far more than the illegals actually cost, given by how incompetent our governments seem to be.

I think it's just being offered up as a distraction from the s1ht show that's currently taking place.
