We're expecting a dry sunny week starting Saturday and I have dehydrating racks for my sun oven so I'll dry some for a bit of variety. Do you dry them crispy or leathery or ? Please advise :)

I put my ripe chillies in a jar under white vinegar and use as required. You end up with a hot, hot. hot chillie vinegar for salad dressing.

@CanadianLori I've only ever dried mine by stringing them on thin wire or cotton thread stretched across an empty picture frame and then hung in a window above a radiator. It made for a jolly winter/Xmas decoration. Ever since I've frozen them, minus seeds and pith then chopped into ice cube trays.

@CanadianLori I use more or less the same method as @Obelix-Vendée. I used to have a lovely sunny and airy room to hang them in but now reduced to putting them in my AC.

ive found chilies will dry well in air if sliced down the middle and spread thin, and I dry them to crispy as they last indefinately then. Leathery will still eventually go off i think

Thank you. Crispy it is. I'm still going to experiment a bit with the sun oven just because I have it and loads of chillies to play with. :) I'll try to remember to post a pic when I'm done playing. Probably mid next week. :)

More today. The greenhouses receive little sun now due to the angle, so there won't be many more harvests of ripe ones. Lots are about half ripe, I'm just leaving them for now. Plenty more green to pick too

I use the green ones as well as the ripe to make my breads with variegated sprinkles of heat. They are a bit more visible through the crusts too which prevents me from accidentally biting into a hot bun!

Thanks for the replies re starting chilli seeds. You can freeze chillies for a year. This obviously gives you time for next years crops to fruit. On another note I like mild chillies but my banana ones this year have no heat at all they are just like sweet peppers despite having a one chilli logo on the web site. Still they taste fine.

I had the opposite experience with my chillies. I chopped up a few for the freezer, washed my hands, then did the washing up so hands in water for a good 10 mins. Then I touched my eye and streamed tears for the next 10 minutes.

                        Hello all,

My chillies (and tomatoes) are now all finished and the greenhouses are now tidied.
This year I've been very impressed by a jalapeno variety called "Mammoth". Very large peppers and plenty of them. Here's my last bowl though I've had plenty of bowls before this. I tried another jalapeno variety called "Goliath" that gave smaller peppers than the "Mammoth" but they were slightly less prolific. All in all, it's been a good year for growing peppers.

Nice, my jalapenos were not the most prolific so I'll try that variety in the future

I still have some in my greenhouse in pots, but the rest I have removed. Got 1.6kg of green and part ripened peppers off the plants this morning.

Last harvest from the plants, apart from a single Thai dragon plant I'm leaving in the greenhouse as it's supposed to be mild for the next week or so. These are mainly scotch bonnets from plants bought from B&Q

I brought in my Chocolate reapers as soon as they set fruit. I didn't want to shift them and lose blossoms before time. I'm hoping I get enough ripened at least for seeds.

Mrs Shiney sold six chilli plants today  and we still have a few left for sale. I know someone is coming tomorrow for chillies but don't know whether it is one or more plants. It's good that they are going to good homes as our new greenhouse won't be up for another month.

We worked today on the next stage of clearing the old one and I hope to continue with my thread. Rain stopped play! As soon as I got the pressure washer out the heavens opened
