Re the tax on glass containers, potentially driving producers to pack things in plastic instead? Talk about ‘perverse incentives’!

I saw the Eden project has recorded an increase of its losses from £1.5m the previous year to £3.5 million over the last year. This is despite laying off 75 workers and they say the visitor numbers has reduced slightly (think it was 10%) but they state it was mostly because of the government's NI increase.

Just a tip: you remember the first 21 days after the election, when she secretly gave public servants, train drivers and NHS nurses a salary increase? She had spent 24 billion just in 21 days. In fact that 22 billion black hole was created in these 3 weeks.
These spendings were not one-time pay offs but who ever chancellor is needs to find that money now year after year.

That picture reminds me of the time in Spain at my ex wife's parents and in the local English paper someone was advertising a pet tiger for sale. I wanted it but wasn't allowed

That particular item makes me furious @Jiffy .
Oh yeh - hand them plenty, in case they take their overpriced vehicle company somewhere else. Couldn't possibly afford to furlough their workers themselves of course.
How much profit do they make each year? Hmmm....

I wonder how all the victims of the Post Office debacle felt when they heard about that.

I think the gov assistance is mainly for smaller companies that supply Jag/LR, which might otherwise go bust during the production pause.

The SNP has new trans guidance for schools re toilets, etc. Apparently this includes that if a trans student on a residential trip is uncomfortable sleeping alongside those of the same biological sex, they should be given the teacher's room. Where the teacher should then sleep is not spelt out.

Nah I'm too old and sick to consider it and if I had that sort of money I'd have a gardener to do the grass cutting and weeding whilst I got on with the fun bits.

I see the high court has ordered PPE Medpro to payback £122 million back to the government. That's highly likely to happen with them filing for administration. Typical governments squandering tax payers money to their donors.

Two moans that I have just sorted out:- Moan 1

British Gas, I usually have no problem with them, sent me an email asking me to send in my meter readings. I do that each month on the 20th and the next day they show me how much I owe. That went ahead as normal so no problem. Yesterday I received an email asking for my meter readings again  so I just asked them why. They said it was because of the Price Cap changing so that I can make sure I don't overpay. So I said "but I'm on a fixed contract" so it doesn't make any difference to me. "Sorry, but these notices go out automatically" and I said that they shouldn't as they waste my time and yours. So they said we shall make sure you don't get these unnecessary notices. To which I said, if you can do it why isn't it done automatically? "Don't Know!"

                                Moan 2

More annoying, Amex sent me an email saying that under KYC (it's the short form used for the Know Your Customer Regulation set by the Financial Conduct Authority) I have to prove that I am born in Britain in order to make sure that I'm not money laundering. I did once leave a £5 note in my pocket when putting my trousers in the washing machine ).

They needed proof of my ID and said that a copy of my photo page of my passport, plus a copy of the back of those pages, would be sufficient. Not too much of a problem, so I sent the required pictures and added a letter from a friend/business owner verifying that they had seen the original passport (not really needed but I decided to do it anyway). I have been a customer of theirs for forty years or more and they have always taken my payments by Direct Debit so never owed them anything.

Yesterday I received an email asking for exactly the same thing so I phoned them saying that I am quite upset by it as they have known me for forty years and I have already sent the required documents despite it being a nuisance. So they looked it up and told me that they had received it all and that it was perfectly OK and I shouldn't have received it again.

I said that I was even more annoyed as it has wasted my time and hers so I wanted it put as a complaint. She agreed that I certainly had grounds for complaint so she will now call up the complaints form and procedure. I said, rather forcefully :rolleyespink:, that they had wasted enough of my time and I just wanted her to do the complaint for me as she has all the details. So she said she can do it. Why not say that in the first place?

Just to let you all know - I am now officially recognised as being born here and am a UK citizen. :loll:
