I doubt that war will ever end totally. Too many war mongers in the area and as usual clash of religions.
I think the end of the Cold War gave us a lot of false optimism. There was so much talk of the "Peace Dividend", how all this money we used to spend on defence was going to be redirected to better uses. There is also the saying "Jaw, jaw is better than war, war". We thought that if we could only talk everything through it would solve all the problems. The language "Esperanto" was invented to try and facilitate communication between all the peoples of the world - I spent a while in my youth doing a correspondence course in it. The only thing I can remember about it now is that most of the words seem to end with a "j". In the end English and the Internet/Social Media accomplished what Esperanto was trying to achieve - in terms of everyone being able to talk together. But the effect is rather the opposite of what those idealistic linguists expected!
As long as there are people, usually men, who lust after power and wealth there will be conflict as they make grabs for land, minerals and labour. The cold war is heating up again. Finland, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland have all noticed building up of Russian armaments and soldiers near their borders and there has been a lot of Russian drone activity interfering with all sorts of airports in Denmark, Germany and Norway as well as a Belgian military base. Putin is clearly testing EU willingness and ability to defend itself if/when he fails in Ukraine or gets his way and decides he's invincible.
What does that mean, I dont think my keyboard could write that. I think for the moment Putin is wary of biting off more than he can chew, but I wonder? Is North Korea and China likely to get involved, especially if we become more anti China. Its suspicious that china wants a Super Embassy here, personally I think China would prefer to take over the Westvia economical terms rather than all out war, but I'd never be surprised if Russia invaded a NATO country that China would at least provide arms and possibly mercenary types to help. I'm also a bit wary of India these days, they seem to be getting in bed with Russia, plus the Russian influences taking place in parts of Africa.
Not as much @pete as the Chinese in Africa where they have invested both money and "diplomacy" to gain access to wide tracts of arable land with a view to feeding their population at home and, possibly, controlling food supplies to others. Economic rather than military power is usually cheaper and more effective. By the way, it means what goes around comes around. As for Putin, Trump learned his playbook from him and Hitler - make lots of noise about external things to distract the populace and stop them looking too closely at what's going on at home. It's working a treat at the mo - tariffs, ICE, sending troops into peaceful cities and calling democratic protest ANTIFA - all to distract from the Epstein files and the growing conclusion that Trump is a Russian asset. There are hundreds and thousands of USA ANTIFA soldiers buried in Arlington, numerous European cemetries and in th efar east after fighting the Nazis and Mussolini and Japan.
I dont know what an ATIFA is, but I'm also unsure what you are saying, or implying. I know you dont like Trump but is he really as bad as Hitler? Its a well know politicians ruse to divert people away from scandal and other things its not just a Trump thing. A good day to bury bad news is how most work. I really cant see why he gets so much hatred, because that is what it appears to be, I mean I think Starmer is pretty useless, but I don't hate him. I find it all slightly, no massively irrational, I mean have you ever met him. What the hell, just stop reading so much one sided drivel and get a balanced view.
LOL. don't see any other democratic country trying to do anything But all like to point at negative someone that is. SMH.
@pete if you're not following USA events you won't understand why he's so hated or despised. Starmer may or may not be useless. He's so bland it's hard to tell but he isn't condoning the detention without trial or counsel of thousands of men, women and children just because their skin is brown. He isn't condoning the mistreatment of government employees by witholding wages in a government shutdown. he doesn't feature in a dossier about rape and the sexual abuse of children. He hasn't sent billions of dollars of aid to Israel whilst trying to cut medicaid to the poorest and the workers at home because it's too expensive. ANTIFA is anti-fascism. you know, people standing up for their democratic rights as stated in the USA Constitution. Nothing major or despicable about that, is there?
Women of America. These are the men who control your very bodies. Never has the word “dickhead” been more appropriate.
"The more things change, the more things remain the same" is an alternative interpretation. However you want to put it, "c'est vrai " I'd say at the moment, China is gaining more world influence because it is putting massive finance in to several countries - including the UK. Whether they will eventually follow the likes of Putin and others by using force is debatable. Whilst they are currently on a winner, they can hold back on the missiles. I don't know whether you can really say you "Hate" someone if you have never met them in real life You can disagree ( very strongly sometimes ) with their views, dislike their general attitude , despise their politics or think they are completely mad or whatever but actual hatred is a wee bit more of a personal thing IMO and can lead to trouble. We've already seen this with the Mosque and Synagogue attacks to name just a couple. @redstar the Trump "war" apart, I'd meant to ask you some time back what does SMH stand for as you have used it on a couple of occasions ? Must be my age but I can't keep up with all the acronyms in use nowadays @Tidemark ........... if men ever evolve sufficiently to suffer pregnancy/childbirth, I expect the laws will be changed to suit. Kennedy and his followers are a few slices short of a loaf I think
