Some years ago I posted about pups on the Agave mediopicta alba
    [IMG]

I separated them and potted them up and I still have them but too many!

I often find that agave plants spend too much time propagating them selves and not enough effort growing the main plant.
Agave fillifera is the only one I have had that tends to stay a solitary plant.

That's the trouble with dividing something, you end up with too many. I speak from experience !

Echeveria are my biggest problem, I don't like throwing them away, Agave I have managed to just get rid of the pups when repotting, I find them a pain, literally, especially when they start coming out the drainage holes.

Just out of interest there is one of these A mediopicta growing in a front garden not far from me.
It never seems to grow much but it doesn't die either .
They always get covered in black spots with me unless I keep them totally dry.

Yes, and the leaves that fall off Pachyphytums and others, I can't throw those either, hence the reason why I had to buy that new greenhouse.

You have done well on your agave. It's one plant I've been trying to grow from seed several times,
Come to the conclusion I'm best buying the plants

I've grown them from seed on a few occasions, but it's a slow process.
I'm too old to bother now.

@Victoria a long wait for the Cycus r to get to any size - one of those plants you need to mention in your will I think:biggrin:
I only have 2 Agaves now - the mediopicta which I've had for what seems a lifetime and a pale green one which I seem to have carted about with me for even longer than that. Both live outside all year round and show no signs of giving up.

I grew a cycad once from seed when you could order direct from Oz... Or maybe it was a macrozamia? Took years to start doing anything and then died when a winter was too cold for my limited greenhouse heating. I bought a huge bag of seeds from a collector in the outback, but only the one germinated. Someone from RHS told me you had to treat them with strong hydrogen peroxide (I think) to get them started. Not something I'd start now!

I used to have a few seed grown cycads.
Again I got bored with them making massive root systems and very slow top growth.
And again I wish I had kept them.
I had a couple of Dioons and another species of which the name escapes me now.

These days I just have the common old C. revoluta.

They probably are the only cycad you are likely to come across in a normal garden centre.

I seem to remember the price of them was sky high too.
