I came the closest I've ever been to being runover a few days ago. We have one of those stupid dutch roundabouts (more like double dutch to most drivers) and i was about to cross when an old lady just sped strict off the roundabout without looking.
I wish people would learn how to use them, I think they are stupid and dangerous from a pedestrian point of view because cars just don't want to let you across and deliberately speed towards the zebra, in order to make it past before you get there, or park on it so you have to go behind.

Also recently I was using a pelican crossing and as the light was go for me I had made it half way across only for a illegal electric bike to come speeding behind me. The part that is memorable is because waiting at the lights was a police car that didn't even look at them.

We have one of those Dutch roundabouts. Took 18 mths to install, for reasons that escape me. The problem is, due to buildings, you cannot see any approaching pedestrians till they are about a metre from it, which doesn't give much time to stop even if you are only going at the 20 mph limit.

We have a double dutch roundabout, traffic queues have increased nicely around the area, remember, the Dutch go most places by bike.;)

Its all part of modern thinking, make something dangerous and people will slow down.:roflol:

I've never understood the wildlife code of UK traffic. Apparently there are pelicans, puffins, zebras, pandas and goodness knows what lurking around every corner.

As a pedestrian from hell, I just approach timidly, probably driving the drivers mad, making hesitant "will cross- whoops- will not cross"- movements.

And thanks to the wrong side traffick I always look the wrong way even when the council helpfully paints in very large letters on the road LOOK RIGHT. That just makes me self concious. :heehee:

Apparently, for sale at a price of £50, you can buy a small, square magnet called a "brick". This brick helps you break your smart phone addiction as you can tap your phone against it to block an app.

Hmmm, maybe I am missing something here, but why would you not just not open the app? Simples!

It brings to mind that TV prog from the 70s called "Why don't you just turn off your television set and go and do something more interesting instead".

I don't understand, why do you want to block an app, surely you don't install it in the first place.

Or turn off notifications from that app, if you still want to use it occasionally.

@pete There are dozens of apps on my phone which were there when first powered up and can't be removed.

If you want an app out of sight, they can always be moved into the App Library which is on a home page which is scrolled several times to the right to find it. That’s what I do on on my iphone. You press and hold down ( any) icon until the icons start wiggling. ( a message will show up but just ignore that and eventually it disappears). Choose the icon you want to move, press and hold finger on it and gently move it ( right) through the homepages / home screens ) until you reach the Library. Then pop it in there.

Just a thought, if you can’t find the library, just swipe left, left left on the screen until the library shows up. All your apps should be shown in there anyway. You can add more as and when you need to.

Can't spell that ! and the automatic spelling thing told me to put 'patrocracy' ... whatever that means ...

@ViewAhead our dutch roundabout was a bit quicker to install, about a year, but cost 5 million (including one wall that cost 100k on its own). The funny thing is that once they had finished, they had to immediately redo all the crossing because the guide dogs and the blind, found it all very confusing.

I have to swipe upwards to find my apps, and then sideways.
There are a few There that I rarely use but from time to time I get a message saying such and such app has been put to sleep, or words to that effect, as I don't use it enough.
