If you go for oticon you then must have an up to date Iphone. Not the latest but they do not work with older ones. I know someone whose health plan insists on Oticon so the 5k dollars are covered but the iphone costs a pretty penny. And you cannot use any other phone.

    Please be careful.

KT53 if your friend’s hearing aid is similar to a widex there is a built in program that can concentrate its listening in various directions eg from full surround to ahead only which you operate from your smart phone. Perhaps your friend has entered the program in rear mode only by mistake.

I don't want to have to play on my smartphone just to control my hearing aids. I just need two switches - on and off.

Yes, granted Oticon is expensive. With a good Audiologist , good audiogram and programed correctly they produce the best, according to the patients my husband had anyway. But that was another life. The company was our baby. Kinda felt sad when we sold it.

I've also got ostecelerosis and tinnitus and have had NHS aids for about ten years. I don't like the look of them but I have tried a few privately bought sets and all were worse functionally than the NHS ones. That included a pair that were £6000 or so.

They did upgrade my set to a pair that were controllable by smart phone, I would urge you @lizzie27 to reconsider as it is very useful. They are tuned to different environments and the outside setting works so much better outside than the restaurant setting for example, and vice versa. It is easy to set up and quite intuitive. They have things like intelligent noise reduction, wind reduction, voice amplification and you can adjust them yourself or just leave them to do it one their own. In this case technology really has advanced a lot and is useful.
