Unfortunately unless all the relevant documents are made public, we will never really know how and to what extent some were involved so the famous ( or infamous ) will take the fall for others. Trump has yet to explain his involvement but that doesn't look likely to happen.

Wasn't Maxwell given a "soft" imprisonment in exchange for not spouting too much ? Even a possible future Pardon from Mr. Trump ? Blackmail, in one form or another, is gaining popuarity these days.

 

You've not upset me, @Philippa . My paternal grandfather was awarded the Military Medal - the 'poor man's MC' - in 1918, for 'conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty' in WW1. He was wounded three times, twice in Ypres, once on the Somme, and limped home in February 1919, in time to see his only 4 month old son - my father - for the first time.
I never knew about this until very recently, it was never mentioned when I was a child or growing up, and have never seen the medal, which went to another member of the family. I appreciate every poppy sold, for his sake, and for the sake of every one of the Service personnel who do their duty to try to keep us safe.

 

Thank you @Tinkerton - that's a family history to be proud of. I guess I just get cross when we try and remember the fallen in previous conflicts but we learn SFA from it. Big Sigh .

 

Thank you, @Philippa , appreciated. His only brother, my Great Uncle, was killed, aged 25, at the 2nd Ypres, leaving behind a wife and two year old daughter. His only commemoration is on the Menin Gate.

In all this Andrew coverage on the Beeb they keep showing clips of her brother saying how an ordinary girl from an ordinary family brought down a prince.

No mention of all the billionaires, millionaires and politicians like mandelsson and the former Israeli prime minister being shot down and how, please, does an ordinary girl form an ordinary American family end up running around on the streets and being found by Ghislaine Maxwell and thinking that would be a safe refuge?

That is not normal in any country I know buy maybe so in good ol' USA.

 

For as far back as I can remember, poppy sellers have been on the street with their collecting tins and trays of poppies for a couple of weeks before Armistice Day. It's nothing new.
Both of my parents volunteered for the armed forces in WWII and my maternal grandfather served in the Army, Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force before, during and after WWI.
The poppy is the only badge of any charity that I ever wear.

 

Its probably still happening and not just in the USA.

I just wonder where her family were in those days, how innocent she actually was and what has happened to the 12 million quid.
