I believe I said on one occasion that I made boiled cake @CanadianLori, and also that my grandmother used to make custard slices.
I've been going to make more boiled cake but I can't find the recipe. It must be here somewhere ...

Yes, you're spot on, that segment of posts is what brought up discussions about custard slices as I didn't know what they were. I quite enjoyed the boiled cake and still have the recipe in my binder. I must admit that I only remember to make it about once a year though.

I'm happy right now and patting myself on the back since I got my laundry done before 7 this morning during low rate leccy times! I'll do granddaughter's after 7 tonight and then I'll be all caught up again :)

And I got my dodge Caravan fixed. I had thought when someone took it for a drive (they forgot I told them about coolant issues and an appt for radiator pipe to be fixed the next day) and got it so overheated that it blew out two plugs, burnt the wiring, and caused lots of other damage. It sounded so bad I really thought they would tell me they could help arrange to get it to the auto wreckers as a write off. It was very very expensive to get fixed but much cheaper than trying to finance a newer used vehicle. :phew:

I expect they're all planned for Friday/Saturday. You even get people letting them off on Remembrance Sunday.

We went to our favourite pub nearby yesterday.

We used to go to it on Fridays after work and for the one or other Sunday Roast for many years. Unfortunately, the landlord and his wife went back to Ireland in September 2022, knowing that he had MND, of which he died in November last year.
A new landlord took over in January 2023, but it was so awful that the village and we decided not to go there as long as he was the chef.
The brewery stopped the contract (never heard before that a brewery had done this) in August this year, and he left in October. I can imagine that the one or other villager complaint to the brewery about him and the food.

We heard in September that the new landlord is from the village, and that the villagers had a word with him about the pub as local centre.
They opened last Wednesday, and by chance we were there and we were his first guests. First impression was so much better and so comfy again as it used to be in old days.
Yesterday, we went to the pub for a Sunday Roast. OMG, home-made, everything including the gravy. The quality and taste were marvellous.
I'm so glad that I have now again a target while walking.

That's an excellent development @simone_in_wiltshire. If they make good gravy, everything else will be good too .

I managed to replace the battery in my Radley watch myself. I started with a kitchen devil knife, then an eating knife, to gently lever off the back of the watch. There was a fragile seal and a white cover inside. Luckily I had the right battery in stock - a tiny one, but I did check online the coding. Using tweezers the new battery dropped and clicked into place and the watch started to tick again. I would normally go into a jewellers and leave it there. So pleased to do it myself for free.

Mind you the watch did have a dog charm hanging on it once, but that fell off in the garden, never to be found.

Also my Plant World Seeds catalogue has just arrived. You can't beat a proper catalogue to browse through. I think it's the only one I get now, apart from Chiltern Seeds.

                    And the sun is shining.

You know that I don’t need the turkey at Christmas but the turkey is needed to get a proper gravy. I’m happy with roasted veggies and potatoes and a proper gravy.
