The BBC people being questioned. (Some of the questioning was pretty good. It is nice to know politicians can actually seriously look into an issue and the drivel we see at PMQs is only part of the story.)

I'd be interested to know how much they get for each child, as some were saying it would be life changing.
Why are most of the ones with multiple kids either unable to work or single mothers, is it just how the news programmes show it, or is it reality.

The reason I ask is because I see this kind of thing every day around where I live, in certain areas, usually the places with the sofa and fridge in the front garden, and the occasional mattress dumped on the grass verge.

Have you tried retuning your TV? Ours prompts us to do this now and then, and new or changed channel numbers appear.

:blue thumb: Many times. Sometimes new channels appear in the list (though still there's no picture or sound), sometimes some of them disappear only to return at the next retune, etc. I'm not the only one, but most of my neighbours moved over to Sky after the switchover or have acquired digital TVs. We aren't allowed aerials above roof height for some reason.

@simone_in_wiltshire, I was talking about Freely, not Freeview. Freely comes via the internet, Freeview via an aerial. My point about maybe the BBC not strictly categorising itself as "freeview" was we have to pay for it, so therefore it is not "free". The Freely TVs definitely have iplayer, but I'm still not sure whether they have regular BBC channels unless you stay connected to your aerial.

Nothing is recyclable here as the bin men and now the replacement agency bin men are on strike. All our waste goes in the general bin, which is sitting out the front at the moment. We haven't recycled for nearly a year. Of course you can go up the tip, but they still expect you to book a slot - the cheek of it.

I never look at packaging to see if it can be recycled, I just put it in the bin that seems appropriate.
If not right they can sort it out at the recycle centre.
I remember the days when we had one metal dust bin and the whole weeks rubbish just went in it.
Some people have two extra large bins just for recycled stuff, around here, the neighbours do and there is only the two of them but they still can't close the lids on bin day.
Makes you wonder what we are spending our money on, the product or the packaging.

Our local council provides the wheelie bins according to size of family so, when we moved here as a couple, they gave us a half size for general rubbish and a normal one for recyclables. They are each emptied on alternate weeks except in the summer holiday period when both get emptied once a week cos of all the holiday homes and lets. Larger households can have a normal bin for general waste and a double size for recyclables.

No green bins but that's OK as we compost as much as possible. Everything else, including bottles, paper and cardboard, we have to take to the "déchetterie" armed with a pass but no need for an appointment.

We don't have personal bins here ... there are places where communal bins are placed. Ours is on the main road at the top of our lane. There are four homes on our lane. In town/cities the also have dedicated places.

... at the Bar in the Hamlet (not ours but similar) ...

It's the same here and I'd suggest a common theme throughout the country. Those houses also seem to have every crap Halloween and Christmas ornament known to man, dis played months in advance. I have heard a couple of people comment as they walked by that benefits must be pretty high to afford all that crud.

I remember when the January sales were the big event and it meant shops could make a profit before Christmas and then clear out the old stock. We then had boxing day sales, which kinda did the same thing but meant a good trading period for the shops. After this came pre Christmas sales and the shops then started really competing with each other and retail really went downhill. Now we seem to have adopted this rediculous black Friday nonsense, which seems to be a one day sale where it originates but here it's a sort of groundhog, perpetual annoyance, for a whole month. I know a lot of the deals are dubious at best but is it any really wonder the trade is down when the old Christmas fleecing has been diluted so much.

I don't have Freely but I use iPlayer on my Amazon TV stick. I'm not connected to an aerial. The license position is that you must pay a license fee if you use iPlayer or if you watch live TV on any channel. You can watch the BBC channels live on iPlayer over the internet.
