Off topic, but as governments are pushing for a reduction in fossil fuels, aviation via private jets is going though a boom phase, especially since Covid. APD is exactly the same for a passenger on a private jet as it is for a passenger on a commercial aircraft. Yet on a private jet, the fuel burned per hour per passenger is anywhere between 10 and 14 times greater than a commercial plane, depending on the configuration.

There is roughly 30,500 commercial planes including cargo, but there is roughly 23,000 private jets. Some owners can now make a profit out of owning a private jet through leasing due to demand. There was talk about increasing APD for private jets in the budget, I think they were talking about doubling the rate, but even then I don't think that is enough due to the fuel consumption.

HO HO HO, what is this rubbish I've just heard?
EV owners will be expected to guess at their annual mileage for the next year and pay in advance, they will then have to claim back any over payment.

I think the lunatics have taken over the asylum.:roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol::roflol:

I've since heard other versions of how it will be paid, its fairly obvious they haven't thought it through and just spouting more nonsense.
Throw it in the ring and see where it lands politics.

I've thought up a more efficient way of travel that is OK for the environment and tax free. It also has advantages on the side.

At the moment there are no plans for a mileage charge.

There will be no problem about being dazzled by headlights, no traffic jams, it will save me the cost of petrol for mowing (we have sufficient lawns for one) and it will enjoy eating our windfall apples, free manure for the garden and the local kids can be charged a very small fee to come in and play with it. There will a higher charge for short flights.

You would be taxed on the methyane from both ends

We got a second hand EV this year and it's frankly brilliant for what my wife needs. I'm keeping my diesel Jag for now.
If there's one thing that's certain, it's that any government plan for charging per mile was a half baked idea and they have no idea how to do it. The final method will likely be very complicated and cost more to implement than what it returns.
In any event, owning cars is very expensive and I just accept that any changes make it more painful.

@shiney We should harness all the flying pigs that have appeared following the claims made in the Budget.

Judging by what the horses leave on the road, I'm not sure adding any kinetic energy from height, is a good idea. Some can be pretty dense and might be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Not really to do with electric cares but if any of you used Premier Insurance they have gone bust and your insurance isn't valid after midnight tonight.

If you had an insurance claim then it is still covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
