Who are the liberal elite? Left wing comedians working at the BBC? Or some fictitious bogey people created by the likes of Farage and Trump to scare the plebs into obedience.
I don't see why? We can always allow more people in. People have always moved in and out of the UK; one of the advantages of living in a generally free and liberal society.
Generally the people who can afford to hold luxury beliefs and spout on about them in a self righteous way. BBC comedians are a good example - Lenny Henry and Dawn French spring to mind. Lenny thinks working people in the UK should pay billions in reparations for things their ancestors might or might not have done. Ignoring the fact that many of us have ancestors who worked down t'mill till they died of typhoid at 30.
So essentially what I said and best described as the usual suspects. And Lenny Henry can think what he likes and try to convince the rest of us of the rightness of his position. This is the UK not the US, Russia or China. Likewise you can argue against him to your heart's content, you never know you might convince him if he ever meets you. How's Dawn French upset you, don't tell me you believe women shouldn't be vicars.
Liberal elites - anyone who uses their money and/or connections to further the far left agenda; anyone who preaches at others to "be kind" when what they really mean is "you must think as I do"; anyone who claims "there is no discussion to be had" on any topic when what they mean is "you must be silenced if you dare to disagree"; anyone in a position of influence who pushes shouty, fringe minority views on society, despite the harms these cause. And so on ...
There are millions of people in America without any links to England. The Spanish, French and others invaded the Americas.
That is the kind of thinking I'm referring to. Why do "we" ,not me, hold our selves responsible for all things wrong in the world, there seems to be people that go out of their to make a connection and will go back to the stoneage almost to find one.
Patriotism in this country seems to have gone. Such a shame for we have, over time, achieved some great things….as well as maintain our long held traditions. We are a product of our past, be that glorious or tainted but we can’t change it but try and endeavour to do better for our country now. But we are all children of our era and you cannot judge us today for our past, because we are not like that now. We all have pasts, we try and change but retain our heritage and the backbone of what is British along the way. Nothing wrong in that IMO.
I think that anyone in this country that can't trace their ancestry back to the Picts and Celts should be sent back home. Oh! Wait a minute! That means me as well . Would there be anybody left? Another problem with that is where do we get sent back to.
Why can't you be poor and a Liberal Elitist, by far left do you mean communist? So that's the entire Christian faith and a number of other religions as well, I'm glad I ignored all those sermons as a child. Well that rules out the Left, the Right and most of the Centre as well. Probably gets you a red card as you think the ill defined Liberal Elite should shut up and not express their thoughts.
I can't accurately trace my ancestry back to 1850. The Cornish, the Welsh, and the Highlanders would be okay. The lowland Scots may well need to swap with some of the Irish. Well depending on how far back you want to go c 5000 years probably then the Near East and out across Asia and the Steppes towards China. Or as early as possible and then Africa gets overcrowded very quickly.
On one side of my family I can go back as far as the Inquisition - not enforcing it but being expelled by it.
