It was an introduction from American owned companies. I think amazon introduced it in the early 2010's and then other American companies followed suit before everyone jumped on the band wagon.

I think people have just become less interested, or more aware it's largely a rip off, so they are extending it to fleece as many as possible.

Thanks all. Still not sure where the "black" fits in tho ? An extra day off work sounds good so Happy Friday would be a more appropriate term I'd have thought.
Stupid Friday for the supposed bargain buys ?

Whoa! No. It's been around a long time and I remember it in the early 1980's. I know it was originally to mark when vendors would feel they were operating very deeply in the black instead of the red at the beginning of the year. It's been around long, long before the internet. Amazon was just another in the line of retailers to join the frenzy.

I do take advantage of a few items on offer at this time but it is because I know it is a good deal because I've followed the pricing the rest of the year.

Talk about pricing. When did the price of things become their "price points"? Or rain become "rain showers"? I think we're all capable of babbling enough without inventing multiple words to describe something when one would do! :rolleyespink:

@CanadianLori I was meaning that it wasn't a thing in the uk until american companies brought it over. I think it's been around in the states since the 60's.

The origins I believe were from the name given by the emergency services caused by the problems on the day. In America it was the day after thanksgiving when shoppers went a little wild but we had/have it here on the last Friday before christmas (police and ambulance services used the term long before the shopping sale made its name here).

The term I dislike on the weather is fresher, "it's going to be fresher", no you mean it's going to be cooler/colder. It is either that or they say "more comfortable".
