I'm sure that's true ... if it does not cause you such an unbearable level of stress that you are unable to function whilst doing it. Some people are people people and some are not. :)

@shiney people I've met here don't seem to entertain friends at home, just family gatherings. We only see our neighbours if out and about when they're outside, except for the annual neighbours' gathering. When we moved here I invited those either side for a lunch to get to know each other and they were very surprised.

Some of my patch club ladies are vulnerable - accidents, ill health of their own or OH's - but, whilst they appreciate an email, card or text, don't want visits or help.

Until covid we used to open our garden for charity and could get 500 people in a day turn up. Over the years we have had over 60 members of GC come along as well. I used to have sandwiches ready for them as most stayed all day chatting to each other

Got to admit I've never been good in social situations, usually say all the wrong things and become boring, there's a "two ronnies" sketch that would probably fit me.

I've avoided these situations for years because I always come away thinking, I did this wrong, I said that wrong, etc.
I do speak to anyone who wants a chat when I'm out, but in recent years the hearing has gone to some extent and I cant get involved in conversations where there is background noise and it not one to one, so when I get asked to go to something like a reunion, which I have, I decline the offer and get the usual label of a miserable git.

but I'm only a miserable git on here, not when face to face, I hope.;)

In my experience, Open Gardens in Belgium and France do not include cake or sandwiches @shiney!

We didn't do sandwiches except ones I made for GC members but we sold homemade cakes, teas and coffee and they were very popular. Drink and a large portion of cake for £3.50. We also sold Pimms .

There was non-stop entertainment -singers (all different types), music and dancers (including Flamenco and belly dancers :heehee:). Craft stalls, a very large plant sales area (almost all propagated by Mrs Shiney) and different therapies available (head massage, reflexology etc.).

It was all there to raise money for charity. :blue thumb:

That is me exactly. I am anxious beforehand, panicky during, and afterwards I spend days (yrs even, sometimes decades) going over it all in my mind, worrying. It is utterly exhausting.

Never been good at small talk, if I don't have anything to say my mind goes blank or I say something stupid.

I've always admired those people who can just walk into a crowded space and just join in.

The trick is to get the other person talking. Ask questions. I always struggled with talking to people in the office and then hit on the formula of remembering things I heard them talk about before and asking questions - so how is your daughter getting on at university? etc.
