That's interesting to know @CanadianLori, thank you. I wouldn't say that they are uncomfortable on flat ground though. I grew up in Barbados and they were popular in the hotels there, often around the pool but also on the beach, which can slope. They resemble what are known there as Planter's Chairs which originated in India. The long arms are for resting your legs :thud:. Still room on the arms for several drinks . My brother got a template for Adirondack chairs and makes his own. They are actually more comfortable than the ones I have :).

    Planter's Chair, off the internet.

Went for a walk and met some lads, around 10 years old perhaps, who had been fishing in the free fishing pond all morning.

They had had a good morning, this is the biggest Perch they had caught by then

        upload_2026-3-21_21-9-14.png

The thing that made me happy was that the young lads were out in the nature in the morning, caught fish they promptly named, chatted about the small leeches around the fish's gills, moved their bikes from blocking the path and in general were doing things kids should be doing on a fine Saturday morning. :)

All this scary talk about the new generation being screen bound and not having a clue of the Real World was mitigated by meeting these boys.

They'll do just fine with the world :)

Me too. :hapydancsmil: It has been waiting for the right conditions - dry enough to burn properly and the wind in the right direction. There was no wind at all!

I shall go down to see how well it went. I did the usual of hosing down the trees around and then left it when the flames had gone down. Sometimes it can continue smouldering for a few days.

Those chairs that were posted would be useless for me :noidea:. I need to have my knees lower than my back. I would not be able to get out of them - possibly not able to even get in them.

To be honest, it would make me happiest if the lads prepared and ate their catch.

It's rare nowadays to have that kind of a connection with nature and I think it's precious. To see a creature alive, to make effort to catch it, to admire it and then to eat it is part of being human.

Look at the cave paintings, how the old ones appreciated and even worshipped their catch, and then ate it.

Very cruel in a way, but very natural too.

And I deliberately didn't ask the lads what they were planning to do with their catch, I much rather don my rosy glasses :)

It’s been established that fish feel pain. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be hauled around by a hook in my mouth, hoiked out of the water and left, gasping, in the air until someone yanks the hook out of my skin. And then what? Ghastly.

                        Indeed, I totally agree.

Humans using other, living and feeling things to boost their own survival is a dilemma I have been thinking about for most of my adult years, and am still not sure what's right and what's wrong.

Or what's right and what's wrong.

Going back to my original thoughts about the lads, I do feel happy that (at least some) kids nowadays are not just humpnecked screen watchers but see, feel and experience the nature. :)
