"I'm not sure what the best free program is for this but I'm sure someone else can help you with thai"

I use Spybot Search and Destory. Reasonably follow-your-nose installation and operation.

Claire try Ad-Aware 2008 from Lavasoft it's free and excellent for removing spyware Spybot Search&Destroy is another good programme I run them both also C-Cleaner from Piriform I can highly recommend, all these progammes have a free version but you can upgrade if you wish some ask for a donation.

    Hi Claire.

You have been given some good links regarding Spybot, Ad-aware and C-Cleaner. But these are only effective if you have already had your puter infested...it's a good idea to update them and run them once a week as I do. Also have a good firewall and anti virus systems on your puter.

I'm not saying don't panic, but don't panic yea. A lot of spyware is just tracking cookies which monitor your browsing habits as and when you go onto that site. Loads of sites use them, including the BBC News etc...they are not harmful really. I have used smiley central or what ever it is called with no probs whatsoever. It's Trojans that you need to protect against...they are the one's that can pinch details off your puter.

One way of curtailing these things is to not keep a history of your browsing habits...so that every time you close down your browser, the cache, history and temp files are removed. If you don't know how to do that, then just PM me yea, and if you are using IE, change to FireFox.

Also, another way that people use to infect your computer is through Email. That's the one you really need to be aware of. Rules.....Never open an email unless you know the sender. 2..If you use Outlook Express, do not use the preview pane facility, turn it off sharpish as that's a great way to get infected.

It might seem a lot to do all at once, but once you have mastered the initial procedures it becomes easy.

    Cheers me love.:thumb:
