I was done for parking in front of a disabled ramp earlier this year, and quite righty so I might add. I didnt know those bobbly pavings indicated a disability ramp so parked within three feet of one. No problem I took it on the chin as I realised that I might have been causing an obstruction and actually felt really guilty and would never have parked their in the first place had I known. However I pass the area daily and have noticed that the council (I presume) have put heavy barrier type bollards which block about a third of the disability ramp area and they have been there for about 4 weeks to my knowlege. They are not permenant and there are no signs as to why these blockades have been put there neither is any other work going on. I am guessing its to stop cars pulling forward to get off the paved area. Any suggestions as to complain to?

    Hiya Nut.

As a disabled driver, I am not aware of bobbly pavings indicating a disability ramp. If there were no signs to indicate this, then I would certainly not pay a fine. However, if it was a dropped kerb, then no one should park over them...even Police (whom Mrs Tweaky has complained to with the offending copper on the spot) She's a begger when she's roused, heh, heh.

As to the other part of your question.....I would question the Highways Dept at the local council. Alternatively, I would write to the Warrington Guardian or whatever and send your message by email to be included in the 'letters section.'

It seems a silly thing to have been done by the council and you may find that other disabled drivers have already complained. However, disabled people attempt not to make a fuss in the main....but me being me...I would have been at the town hall and no mistake. (or got my tow rope out)

Lets know please, how you get on.:thumb:

That's really interesting Nut, I didn't know about bobbly paving either, I've just looked it up on the dft website and apparently the reason they use bobbly paving is so that visually impaired people can tell where the ramp ends and the road begins (obviously they would normally be able to tell by the drop), obvously the reason for providing the ramp is so that people in wheelchairs can get accross the road easily.

Interestingly I am not sure this applies to your picture (it's difficult to tell). As for the barriers, I would contact your local council and ask the question. Do let us know what they say!

I notice that the white cement blocks are actually blocking part of the bobbly slabs. That's great for a VIP or a totally blind person. They think they are safe on the slabs and then go bum over you know what.....they could certainly sue the council in those circumstances.

hmmm, I hope you do contact the council Nut. Like to know if you get a sensible answer from them. I didn't realise that about the bobbly bits either. I, too, thought it was to indicate to vip's where the payment ended and the road was beginning.

I recently tried to look at my councils website to find out what 'curtledge' actually meant. We had a letter from them (all residents did) about parking on the pavement etc and using 'curtlede' to gain access to a paved parking area. Of course I couldn't find anything. According to their search engine the word did not appear anywhere. I googled it too but although it was mentioned I still couldn't find out the actual definition.

Let us know what happens Nut.

    cheers
