Can anyone identify these two shrubs?

This is growing in the roots of a silver birch. It was hacked to the ground at the beginning of the year but has bounced back. As far as I know it doesn't flower (at least it didn't this year). Does any one know what it is and would it make a good hedge?

This shrub was found under grass and weeds. The leaves are a lovely lime colour and again it doesn't appear to flower. Any ideas?

Don't feel confident about either but hazard a guess that the top one is Escallonia, and the bottom one Philadelphus.

Top one def escallonia, not so sure about second though. Could be right Jazid - would like to see the branches, and shape of the shrub to be sure.

My two pennyworth - the top escallonia, the bottom philadelphus. I have both the green leaved and golden leaved philadelphus, and yours looks a little like the goldenform.
