When our local Park trees caught a disease, the council decided in their infinite wisdom to get a Wood Carver in.What do you think?

I like it, it gives the tree a new lease of life and it much better looking than some tree scuptures I've seen. Round here all rotten trees are cut down and the wood given to OAPs for their fires, which is another good use.

I like it as long as it doesn't happen too often. Britain is a wonderful place for ancient trees and even the dead ones are worth preserving. In Europe there are very few and you have to go all the way to Greece before you see ancient trees in the landscape again.

There is a new project to get involved in - finding and recording the ancient trees of Britain. You can get involved and help plot them on an inter-active map.

I like them so long as they are dead trees that are used
That one, however, is a little bit spooky for me
Like Kandyfloss I wouldn't like to come across that on a moonlight night [IMG]

In Newport, on the IoW, there is someone there doing this and it's fantastic.

There is a bear in Brading, I think it is, which is quite awesome, but the one I love is in Newport across from Sainsburys and they've done two dolphins up a tree ... mind boggling ...

    It's fantastic isn't it, woo?

This guy, roders, seems to be coming up with incredible photos lately ... maybe he's the new Photographer of the Year ... not quite sure where it's coming from ...

Spooky trees, Brugmansias to die for, carved owls in trees ...

wiseoldowl, I think that they would have also to protect the sculpture with some primer and woodpaint (is it correct...?), so that it doesn't get furtherly damaged...
