I have identified 2 Japanese Fantail Willows growing in my small garden. One is in the rear corner and is now about 12 feet high. The other is about 8 feet high but is only 3 feet from the garage wall. I am concerned that the root structure of this tree will damage the garage wall or foundations. Grateful for any advice on whether or not to remove this tree.

Hi there and welcome. [IMG] As they sound relatively young - why not just lift them and plant them into large containers. You can still enjoy the trees, and not be worried by any root problems.

    Hi Fran
Thank you for the response. I should have added that the trees are about 4 years old and already have quite substantial wood. I am not sure I could get the trees out with roots intact such that they would survive in a new spot.

Willow does tend to pretty tough - so I would give it a go - they should adapt to container growing as long as watered and fed. Its either that or destruction if your concerned about their closeness to structures - though it would be preferrable to leave any move til the autumn - but if it can't wait, go for it.
