onions in containers ?

    hi all

    just done a search but did'nt come up with anything so..............

    has anyone grown onions in containers or pots ?

    i want to try this next year i have a 60 litre pot but have no idea which onion to try i did'nt really want to do the shallots ones but the kind that are a little bigger than a shallot.

    any ideas ?

    Was you thinking of growing from sets or seed?
    Seed gives you more choice, but sets would be easier.
    I think you can still get the so called Japanese onions, you plant them in sept and they overwinter and crop june/ july the following year.

    i don't mind which although i did hear than sets were easier so might look into them ,
    to be honest i wanted to start growing next yr i have given up with this yr with this horrific weather. :rolleyes:

    my onions have not done so well this year. I have decided to put them in raised beds next year.

    beetroot has also been a disaster.the ones in the raised bed are doing fine.

    im sorry to hear that alot of people have had probs this year with the terrible weather touch wood evrything i have done this yr apart from my peas and radish ( rotted ) have been ok

    glad that not all your hard work has gone up the spout though
