    hi all,

can someone out there please explain how my tv (in same room as my pc) suddenly changes channels on its own?

i can be watching (not really cos i'm on here) one side, say AV/digi, when it will cut back to terrestrial. or i can be watching the 'cable' side when it will change too. what can be causing this? i'm worried more so because i have broadband and being a technophobe, have heard about people hacking in.

earlier today my delete button on keyboard wouldn't work & the tv turned over about 3 times in half an hour!

is it me? Don't answer that :D seriously i know there are some clever people on here so someone can tell me, can't they?

it could well be ghosts cos we have some funny things go on in this house (only little house, not that old - about 1940's i think) but we put it down to us [IMG]

    has anyone got an answer?

    Cheers

It almost certainly isn't hackers borrowers. I suspect something, possibly your computer, is affecting your infra-red remote receiver. Someone may know for sure.

    Thanks, sarra.

will it make any difference if i say my pc has no infra-red devices? i suspect not, cos i don't know how they work anyway.

thanks anyway, nice to know it's not the ghosts or me :D will wait to hear from someone.

    cheers

borrowers, if you have cable perhaps its the box playing up? Give their helpline a ring and see what they say.

You haven't got a dog have you? It happened to me, then i noticed the dog was lying on the remote and everytime she breathed out the channel changed.

I am sure it is not hackers. Though I don't understand why it happens - sounds like some sort of dodgy contact somewhere.

I bought a cordless door bell, and was woken up in the early hours of the morning, when it went off. No-one at my door but there were people at the door of the house 60 yards away. We were obviously on the same channel. But that works both ways ..... :D

How about taking the remote control out of the room and see if it still does it.
Could the batteries be getting flat, and they're trying to tell you. :D

I've had two TVs recently that kept going on standby for no reason, they both ended up being dumped.

Mabe next doors remote some have quite a range,if you have your tellys in the same corner of the room yours could possibly be triggered by their remote(now tell me you live in a detached).

I assume that all remotes are infra-red, which implies a direct line of sight. Though its noticeable that when my batteries are new you can bounce the signal off the ceiling or off an appropriate wall.

    Thanks all,
walnut - no i don't live in a detached, but this particular tv is against a wall that joins the hallway upstairs so don't think it can be that.

could be the remote batteries i suppose.

yeah, i agree with you about tv's topping themselves :D

wonder what delights we will have on over christmas? at least i have my pc so i can come on here & play games. i don't mean come on here & play games....i mean i can come on this site....i can play games when not on this site.... oh i give up. you know what i mean [IMG]

    cheers
