It certainly pays to shop around on the internet. I've been looking for a box set of the St Trinians films and thought I might get a bargain on ebay and found that a set is being auctioned there which is already up to £17.99 and might go higher, so I had a look at Amazon and found the same thing there for just £13.95 brand new. It's £29.99 from HMV!!

jack, I've never bought owt on the ebay thingy, but i always look at amazon before shopping elsewhere, it gives me an idea of the price to start at and then look to see if it can be beaten.
woOwl, both you and jack are lucky with your locations as far as high street shops are concerned. Aberystwyth is quite limited. and the nearest shopping centre (swansea) is 65mls away, up and down, no dual carrisge ways and I don't have the time. It takes 90mins to get there. So i usually look round on the net, it takes far less time. :D

I think you're wise to stick with Amazon, compostee. Ebay, in my experience, should be treated with caution. Although there are supposed to be safeguards in place there seem to be a lot of pitfalls, both for buyers and sellers.

Ebay is built on trust, by both the seller and buyer. There are always people willing to abuse this trust so there will always be stories as such. I have bought many things off Ebay (over 500 according to my feedback!) and can only think of one occasion when I was sold a dubious item - a CD at a cut price that turned out to be a copy. This made me realise that old adage is true, buyer beware! If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
if you are wanting to buy something off any auction site, make sure you do your research, sometimes the same item can be bought else where at a similar price of cheaper, especially if you factor in postage costs. also, read the feedback left by others, it can be very infrmative. also, ask questions. legitimate sellers won't mind answering questions to get a sale!

    hope this is of help

glenw, I think you are very lucky to have had so little trouble on ebay. If I total my transactions with those of a good friend of mine they probably come to about a hundred and together, I would say about 15% of the deals have not been satisfactory...items not as described, damaged items, items not sent and, in the case of my friend who sometimes acts as a seller, buyers welshing on the deal.
Many of the rare old films which are offered for sale turn out to be bootleg copies taken from TV broadcasts...although I'm prepared to turn a blind eye to that (disgraceful I know) if I can obtain films that are otherwise unobtainable.
