Marge What do you think the French will think of our feisty German Shepherd if we bring her over to France in our caravan next summer? - I am taking her to the vet this week end for her rabies shot.
A few years ago we took a black lab over and people were stepping off the pavement as we walked along. Not like in England where kids would want to stroke him all the time.

Geoffhandley I think you mean to direct your post to me ...Mona Lisa ...as I live in France not Marge !! [IMG]

German Shepherd dogs (berger Allemand) are used as guard dogs in the main here, along with Dobermans and such like ....and are therefore treated with a little more hesitation than other, smaller, breeds. Perhaps your black labrador was mistaken for a guard dog !....providing you have all the necessary papers for ID at the campsite, you shouldn't have any problems...... and of course you will be aware of the strict UK regulations for your return journey..... M-L

Sorry M-L Thats what i get for skimming the post. Yes when we took our black lab we only 2 others in the two weeks we were there, and Duke had a fight with one of them.I think the French thought he was some sort of mastiff except at the hamlet where we were staying and they let him run with the local pack.
We know of the regulations for getting back - probably better than the French vets, we got well tutored by our local vets. What are the papers for ID at the campsite? Not heard of those.

Right I think that is a certificate that matches up with the number on the micro chip. That was what puzzled a French vet when we went last time. He was looking for a tattoo until we told him that we generally did not use them in England and then he went off and found a micro chip reader.

I'm surprised you don't have a Pet Passport  as friends of ours who travel on the continent with their animals, all have these.. ours was issued here about 2 years ago. The French system used to be that of a tattoo in the animals ear; there is a national database, HQ in Paris, where the tattoo numbers, details of the animal and the owners name and address are stored .... this has been/is being replaced by the micro chip system, which has been in effect for about 3 years here now...hence our westie has a tattoo and a chip ..... If you have your 'chip' details AND your vaccination certificate you will be fine........... M-L
