    Hi,
I am starting a new job in Jan as a gardener! Have only done my own gardening up until now, so am really looking forward to this challenge. I will also get the chance to work with the residents of the home, people with learning difficulties, but of various ages.Apparently they love to help in the garden too, so I am thinking of ideas and plans for when I get started there. There is a large, old-fashioned type greenhouse, leaning against the wall, and is currently being cleaned up and painted. I was told the 'handyman' would put in tables/shelving however I wanted so here I am asking for advice. I am starting my research on here! I guess a slatted worktop/bench is good when watering plant pots in there, but is a flat full shelf a good idea as a potting-up area? There may be room for a raised bed in the middle, is that a good idea? Not sure how adventurous I will be yet, so maybe I will just be using it to start off with seeds for flowers....and maybe veg..there are lots of borders waiting to be filled in the walled garden, a real 'blank canvas'. Also a small area to be gravelled for a seating area, with lots of tubs and baskets. It's very exciting, I can't wait to get started! Just advice on the greenhouse lay-out for now, but no doubt I will be back. Thanks.

I would actually go for all slatted shelves - increases the flexability of having a potting up area movable where you want depending on the light. You can make or buy a potting up tray that can be tipped up and stored when not in use.

Think of tiered shelving so that you can maximise your growing space - on the growing side that is your least sunny length ( you don't want the plants to obstruct the light to the other side)

If the greenhouse is big enough - how about a vine (roots outside)

Sounds like your gonna have a lorra fun - any chance of some piccies of before and after - it would be lovely to see what your doing

Thanks for that Fran. I'm hoping a digi-camera will be in my Christmas stocking! then I will have a great opportunity for some 'before and after' photos!
