bananas

    hi there BananaMan I saw a banana tree full of fruits and hanging at the bottom was this huge pear-shaped thingy. Would it have been a flower, and if so, what would it look like when it bloomed? Also noticed that they covered the bananas with blue plastic bags, any idea why?
