There are two kind of veg-fruit dealers. Those who sells produces which look wonderful and very promising but have no taste and possibly they are not even ripe, and those who sell not so gorgeous looking stuff but which tastes great. The second one is definitely my favourite. What about you?

If im totally and brutally honest, I would have to say I fall into both categories. I would hands down always prefer to bite into a lovely sweet and juicy, but bruised apple... however, when you see the big shiney polished apples in the supermarket, its very tempting, even though you know its going to be like chewing on water.

    The local dealer every time.

If I wanted Irradiated food then I would go to the supermarket.

The latter. You also tend to get a better deal that way.

When I used to live in Sheffield, I would always try to get all my fruit and veg from the rather large indoor market. Most of the produce was local, and I suspect (although was never able to confirm) that half of it came from allotments. Stuff often looked a bit battered but real fruit and veg often does, and at least they tasted of something. Oh, and you could fill two carrier bags to bursting point and still have change from a tenner. How many supermarkets can offer that?

Yes, I too prefer the local greengrocer, I find that I'm not even tempted now in the supermarket cos I know it's going to be tasteless, I almost forgot what tomatoes taste like!!!!!

Hated Tomatoes till I grew my own.

First taste of a tomato that I remember was at 6 years old at school dinner. Spat the lover straight out thinking what the hell was that :what: are they trying to poison me :what:

I would now kill for a decent sun dried tomato. I love them.

I had a huge crop of cherry tomatoes last year and ate so many I actually got fed up with them. Can't wait for this years crop though. So yes, nothing better than home grown.

Has anyone else tried so-called organic fruit and veg from the supermarket and found there's no difference between that and their normal stock? Tasteless!
