        Being born in the old Monmouthshire and a non Welsh speaker, I would be treated worse than a thoroughbred Englishman.:dbgrtmb:

          We visited Aberaeron this July when we were staying in the Ceredigion region {Oakford}and found the people very friendly and have no complaints about them.In fact the people in the whole area of that aprt of Wales were nice friendly people,but was told by some English people who have made Wales their home that the Southern and Northern Welsh people don't get on very well with each other,but not sure why not.:scratch:

          When we visited Harlech last September we walked into a local gift shop where the owner was talking in English to a couple of local people.As soon as we entered the shop he started talking to the couple in Welsh,and they left the shop,then the owner stood with his back to us looking out of the shop window with his arms folded and never once acknowledged us,so in the end we left the shop and he never got our custom so in the end he was the loser as we went elsewhere and spent our money.:D

          How sad can some people be :mute:

          BTW, I can thoroughly recommend Dunster, both the castle and the village.

            The Quantocks are beautiful. Our last holiday was there. We did west somerset railway, hestercombe (pricey!), Dunster castle gardens - fabulous, lots of beaches - Dunster and Minehead. We love the stoney fossil beaches at Kilve and East Quantoxhead and came home with about 20 ammonites. Exmoor is glorious and the coastal path is lovely.

                Sounds like the area where we go several times a year - Porlock to East Quantoxhead.

                Or park at Blue Anchor (free) and walk via Dunster Beach all the way to Minehead (check the tides) for lunch with real ale at the Old Ship Aground on tne quayside, then travel back to Blu Anchor on a steam train from Minehead Station (West Somerset Railway takes Tesco Deals vouchers).

                Optional extras are a further walk up the first part of the South West Coast Path for views over the harbour and ice creams from the stall outside Minehead Station.

                My daughter goes horse riding near Porlock where we stay and the stables also do half hour led (by you) rides arround the site within the Exmoor National Park that are really popoluar with children.

                  If you go in the Yarn Market in Dunster village you can see a cannon ball hole in one of the beams, from the civil war.

                  Thats's the place - you don't have to be actually staying there to use the riding facilities. I've been going there for around 30 years, and as a family we've been going for the last 12 years or so. We were all there in a caravan there at Easter, and it's where I stay camping on summer fishing trips (out of season I stay B&B at the Old Ship Aground in Minehead). Do you know it?

                  Hi Scrungee,Yes we have been to Burrowhayes about six times and the first time was just after Julian had redone the shower block so it was brand new.They hadn't been long adopted their first child and have since adopted his sister as well:)We were told to go there by Mr Kandy's cousin and we mentioned it to my sister and her and her hubby have been since and stayed in one of his static vans.I have ridden from the stables up onto Exmoor and my sister and her hubby have also been out riding as well,but I couldn't get Mr Kandy interested as he is no good at cantering and galloping:DWe actually celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary on the site.We were on a pitch across from reception backing on to the river.:)Horner is really nice as well as is walking through the woods by the river Barle{sp}

                  In fact apart from Wight, Exmoor is another place I could quiet easily move to,to spend my final days,oh and the Lake District,and Mull,and New Quay {Wales} etc etc...:D

                  Sorry,Clueless I seem to have wandered a bit :D
