I'm unsure whether this should go in identification area.. But problem is I don't have a photo.

I had a plant, I am sure purchased from Huntingdon Garden & Leisure centre, which unfortunately died after all the snow we had previously.
It was gorgeous - but very unique. I bought it with deep purple/blue petals - similar to poppy petals in the way it flowered. However, a little while later sprung up a red daisy petal flower; and this is how it went - it flowered different colour and petals!

I know it if I was to see it again, as I remember the unique flowers and leaves.

Anyone have any idea what this plant was? I tried looking for it again today but it will be past season for selling and alas! It was not there!

I think you are right! The leaves look the same - very 'fluffy' celery-looking leaves.
I don't know which one it was though.. But i definitely would like another!

Look for the bulbs in the garden center. You'll have loads that way!

Well, i have bought some bulbs!

Is there a particular way to plant them?
A particular way up? In a hole together or in a line?

Elizabeth, they should be corms not bulbs ... They should look triangular, brown and wrinkly. If you soak them overnight it fleshes them out a bit and wakes them up. Plant them pointy side down. I plant mine randomly in a cluster-like shape (always in odd numbers, 5-7-9 etc) about one inch below the surface. Water frequently if conditions are dry.

Mmmm, thinking of them, I must get some more myself. :yess:

Yes, they are more like these 'corms' as you've described - forgive the novice termology on my part!

I bought myself some Iris's too (katherine hodgkin) but i guess they are more cloves than bulbs? And some Nectaroscordum (siculum honey lily) bulbs too :)

I believe the Iris's have to be planted next year?
Any chance you know how to plant those bulbs too :D

          :) Hello again Elizabeth

You have chosen a lovely little Iris and she comes in she comes in some delightful colours. You should plant bulbs pointy side UP and with these 2-4 times their depth and again in clusters. It would be safe to plant before any frosts for a Spring show.

I do not know your Lily but have looked it up and it is lovely and very delicate looking. I would say to treat it the same as the dwarf Iris, however, hopefully someone else will come along and give their views.

Good luck with them all and look forward to seeing pictures of them blooming in the Spring! :yess:

Thank you for drawing my attention to the Honey Lily. Funnily enough I noticed it as a scent on a bottle of Radox in the supermarket at the weekend and never looked into what it was when I got home. What a gorgeous flower :D I will keep my eyes open for that one.

And agreed about the anenomes.... I just love them.....and I still need to get mine planted.... a job for the weekend I think :dbgrtmb:

thanks Elizabeth13 I found some honey lily's at the garden centre....looking forward to planting them :D

Would anyone happen to know if these would be suitable to plant in a pot? I've heard they get quite tall.
